Prayer For Reading The Bible
Help us to move into a deeper understanding of your truth.
We lay our lives down before you and ask that you would move amongst us.
May we all feel safe with each other.
Safe to think and question
Safe to ask for help
And safe to share our lives with you, our loving heavenly Father.
Amen.
Illumine our hearts, O Master Who lovest mankind, with the pure light of Thy divine knowledge. Open the eyes of our mind to the understanding of Thy gospel teachings. Implant also in us the fear of Thy blessed commandments, that trampling down all carnal desires, we may enter upon a spiritual manner of living, both thinking and doing such things as are well-pleasing unto Thee. For Thou art the illumination of our souls and bodies, O Christ our God, and unto Thee we ascribe glory, together with Thy Father, Who is from everlasting, and Thine all-holy, good, and life-creating Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me a way to talk to You. As I read the Bible today, please send your Holy Spirit to meet with me, and speak to me through Your Word. Amen.
O Lord Jesus Christ, open the eyes of my heart that I may hear your word,
and understand and do your will, for I am a sojourner upon the Earth.
Hide not your commandments from me, but open my eyes, that I may perceive the wonders of your Law.
Speak unto me the hidden and secret things of your wisdon.
On you do I set my hope, O my God, that you shall enlighten my mind and understanding with the light of your knowledge; not only to cherish those things which are written, but to do them;
That in reading the lives and sayings of the Saints I may not sin, but that such may serve for my restoration, enlightenment and sanctification, for the salvation of my soul, and the inheritance of life everlasting.
For you are the enlightenment of those who lie in darkness, and from you comes every good deed and every gift.
Amen.
May the word I have read, Lord, be planted deeply in my mind and heart.
Help me not to walk away and forget it, but to meditate on it and obey it
and so built my life on the rock of your truth.
Amen.
Open my eyes, gracious Lord, as I turn to your word.
I long to know you, to understand life, and to be changed.
Examine me, Lord, by the floodlight of your truth.
Amen.
Heavenly Father, Who through the power of the Holy Spirit caused all holy scripture to be written for our learning, we pray that we would diligently study Your Word, read, mark, learn and inwardly digest all that You have graciously provided for us, so that we may come to a knowledge of salvation and Your will for our lives.
Open the eyes of our understanding and prepare our hearts by the power of Your Spirit, that we may receive Your Word with much joy and rejoicing and may we leave tonight having a deeper understanding of Who You are.
May we like Job, wonder at Your glory and majesty as we unfold the precious truths that are contained within its pages and may we say like him, "I have heard of You with my ears but now You opened my eyes to spiritual truths and understanding that I never had before." This we ask in the precious name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ,

Lord, it was You Who caused all Holy Scripture to be written for our learning. Teach me today in the power of Your Holy Spirit, the truths that You would have me learn.
Lord, I know that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Feed me on Your Word I pray, and make me hungry for the living Manna that came down from heaven, the heavenly
Bread of Life and true and living Water, Who alone can bring us into our eternal inheritance.
May the Spirit of all Truth open my mind today as I read and study Your Word. May I be willing to be led into all truth and to be taught what is the will of the Father in my life. And give me a willing heart and the
opportunity to share with others the pearls of truth You would teach me today. In Jesus' name,
