Prayer For Public Servants

Lord, no matter who is leading our country as President, we offer our prayers on behalf of his/her position. Draw him into a strong relationship with You. Thank You for this one who has pledged his life in service to our country. Give him a true servant spirit, one who is a person after Your own heart. Anoint him with the Holy Spirit's power, that he might feel Your strength in every situation. Let integrity and honesty guide every decision as He first looks to You for divine help. Turn his heart from distractions and temptations that could bring harm rather than help to his life, his family, and to the people he serves. Make him a leader in every respect, morally and spiritually strong. Enlighten his mind with discernment, wisdom, and fairness.

When others tempt him to embrace arrogant power rather than humble service, give him an undivided heart. Help him to stand firm, knowing that You will fight his battles with him. May He begin His day with You and Your Word, with gratitude and praise for the honor You have given to him. Throughout the day may Your Spirit remind him of his purpose and of Your love for him. And when the night arrives, calm his heart with the peace that passes all understanding as he purposes to keep trusting and obeying You, no matter what the cost. As You surround him with godly counselors, give him accountability to them and the people he serves, but first and foremost to You. Bless him with joy when righteousness and goodness prevail. But give him a heart that weeps for the injustices and sorrows around him.

Guard our President against unfair criticism and unfounded accusations. When he stumbles, give him the courage to admit his mistakes. Strengthen his character, guard him against hurtful compromise, and give him a listening ear for the people he serves. In danger, surround him and our country with Your angel protection. From the time he begins in office until his time is complete, may he serve you and our country as a true leader with an undying love, an unswerving faith, and an unending hope in the only One who can make our country great. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Blessed God and Savior, Jesus Christ, the One who stands knocking at the door of human hearts to save and redeem, I bring before You ________, who works in a position of public service. Just as You were called to seek and save those that are lost by becoming the Servant of all, I thank You for the dedication of this servant who works in his/her place of known service.

Father, as You execute righteous and just judgments throughout the created order, enable _________ with the ability to fulfill and carry out to the best of his/her ability, decisions and plans that would honor You. Daily guide and fill _______ with mercy and wisdom. Your Word speaks that those who fear You, whether nations, individuals in positions of authority, or those who are under authority, will be blessed and not despised. Those who don't will become a heap of rubble and will waste away. Lord, I ask You to bless ________ and fill him/her with a grace-filled attitude towards the individuals who have turned their back or fail to acknowledge You. Continue with mercy Lord Jesus. Look down with compassion and protect Your servant who works with individuals who dishonor and disrespect themselves and often others as well. Gracious God, stop violence and change the heart of those who inflict its wrath.

As ________ expends time and duty in his/her particular role, impart courage to overcome fears. Instill strength of body and mind and a compassion expressed with dignity as he/she upholds the law. Remind Your servant that You are with him/her. Guard his/her heart from the ease of callousness and fill with patience and understanding as he/she deals with the young to the very old.

Thank You Lord for ________ and all men and women who have answered the call to serve. Bless ________; protect and keep from harm and accidents. Return him/her to their family and loved ones.

In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.

Thou Eternal God, out of whose absolute power and infinite intelligence the whole universe has come into being, we humbly confess that we have not loved thee with our hearts, souls and minds, and we have not loved our neighbors as [you have] loved us. We have all too often lived by our own selfish impulses rather than by the life of sacrificial love We often give in order to receive. We love our friends and hate our enemies. We go the first mile but dare not travel the second. We forgive but dare not forget. And so as we look within ourselves, we are confronted with the appalling fact that the history of our lives is the history of an eternal revolt against you. But [you], O God, [continue to] have mercy upon us. Forgive us for what we could have been but failed to be. Give us the intelligence to know your will [going forward]. Give us the courage to do your will [in the days and months and years to come]. Give us the devotion to love your will [to become what you have called us to be together]. In the name and spirit of [the Giver of Life], we pray. Amen.

Our God, Creator of life, order and government. The only true advocate of humankind. We praise your Holy Name. Thank you for your careful vigilance in our interest as you call us to positions of public service. We understand the seriousness of our responsibility and we seek your guidance and power as we make the laws and policies impacting the lives of persons for generations to come.

Help us to remember always as appointed and elected public servants to seek your wisdom as we serve those who are in need in areas of quality of life for all persons. We thank you for encouraging others to pray for those who are in authority.

We need your constant help and strength in all that we do. We also need the help of others if we are to be effective. O Lord, help us to show humility and courage which was shown by your Son, Jesus Christ, as we seek to perform our awesome tasks.

Forgive us when we fail to reach the mark of your expectation and please restore us by your grace and mercy to a state of acceptance in your Will. We celebrate with joy and peace and with hope and love our calling and we desire that our works will glorify you always. This we pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Father,You are the Just Administrator. We pray for those who collect taxes and manage budgets to understand the value of their work before You. Show them that they are functioning as nothing less than Your servants, carrying out Your purposes for the wellbeing of every citizen. Keep them from abusing their power or exploiting their position for anything other than fairly collecting and managing taxes for the common good of all citizens. May they do their work well and as an act of service to You.

Father, thank you for every public servant involved in governing our cities, our states, and our country. Help them to see that they are Your servants first and foremost. And please empower us as citizens to give them the respect due their office whether or not we agree with their political positions.

Give our leaders grace to do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly before You in all integrity. May they defend the oppressed, protect the virtuous, and discipline wrongdoers. Please give them to wisdom to enact laws and regulations that foster an environment where every citizen can flourish spiritually, socially, and physically.

Almighty and eternal God, I praise and thank you for calling me to serve your people.

Give me your anointing and help me not to seek power nor position but rather make me a vessel of your grace to touch the life of our people and to seek to be worthy of your love.

Lord, mould me to your heart. Use me as a channel of your compassion.

Help me to be worthy of your trust that I may be an instrument of peace and hope to everyone.

Give me courage to be an agent of change, to achieve our dream of transformation.

Finally, we ask you to heal our Municipality and to restore faith and righteousness in our people.

This I ask in the Mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
