Prayer For Parents Who Lost A Child

Our Father

St. Felicitas of Rome, you know the grief that comes only with the loss of a child. Your seven sons were condemned to die, and your prayer was that you might live long enough to give them strength and courage to keep the faith. How your heart must have ached knowing that your offspring would face agonizing pain and death. We ask that you would pray for parents today who have experienced the loss of a child, especially (name parents), that through your intercessions God may grant them consolation, through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Help me, loving God. Show me how to carry on with my life. How to offer compassion to others. Teach me to share the great love I had for my child with others who are still on earth.

Give me the grace to now speak to my child in this new life after life. This young thing now has an understanding beyond ours and stands next to you in happiness and love. Help me, Lord.

Touch my heart with your healing love and let me be aware of your endless love in my life today and every day.

It will take time. Give me patience. Let me be aware of your love. Amen

You hold time within your hands, and see it all, from beginning to end. Please keep and carry these precious people in their sadness and loss. Cover them with your great wings of love, give their weary hearts rest and their minds sound sleep. Lord, lift their eyes so that they may catch a glimpse of eternity, and be comforted by the promise of heaven.
We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus.

Amen

As our hearts break and mourn, we are tempted to ask why of you, Lord. Why us? Why our children? Why this life? We know we will never get an answer that satisfies our souls in this lifetime. Show us your compassion in place of those answers. Let us feel the peace that surpasses all understanding. Comfort us as we face the unanswerable.

Lord, I hold my child and wonder where you are. I cry out in pain and wonder if you hear me. I wonder what kind of a God allows this to happen. Our faith is shaken but, Lord, let it not be taken away. We know a day is coming when we shall see our little ones again, whole and perfect. They will rejoice with us as we pass into the perfect forever, no separation from anyone, including you. You will hold them with us, hug us all, heal our hearts, and cast out our suffering. Come soon Lord Jesus. Come soon.

"I humbly salute you, O you faithful, heavenly Friends of my children! I give you heartfelt thanks for all the love and goodness you show them. At some future day I shall, with thanks more worthy than I can now give, repay your care for them, and before the whole heavenly court acknowledge their indebtedness to your guidance and protection. Continue to watch over them. Provide for all their needs of body and soul. Pray, likewise, for me, for my husband, and my whole family, that we may all one day rejoice in your blessed company.

"Amen."

Lord, visit us today and give us faith to believe that our child who served faithfully is in your presence, and we will see him again. Remove anger and bitterness from our hearts and help us to accept the demise of our beloved child. Take away the pain and fill our hearts with your light. Help us to walk in love and fill us with joy everlasting. Lord, turn my mourning into dancing by reminding us about eternity. Let hope fill our hearts that we may look forward to seeing our loved ones again. In Jesus' holy name, we believe and pray. Amen.

Oh Lord Jesus, come to my rescue. Surround me with your love as with a shield. I am broken because of the loss of our only beloved child. Jesus, I know that you understand my pain because you went through the same and even wept when Lazarus died. You know my pain and anguish, and that is why I have come to ask you to set me free from this pain. Remind me of your unconditional love that I may go through the pain and come out a victor. Whatever the enemy intended for my downfall, Lord, use it to lift me to places I never imagined. In Jesus' name, I believe and pray. Amen.
