Prayer For General Election

God of all,

You set a vision before us

of a world where all can flourish

and where no one is left behind.

May your spirit move all those seeking election at this time,

and open their ears to the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.

Through your grace, may each of us play our part in working, praying and speaking out

for a common future of justice and peace. Amen.

God of grace and truth,
send your Spirit to guide us
as we discover your will for our country.
Help us to discuss the issues before us
with courtesy, truth and mutual respect,
and grant that all who stand for parliament
will seek to serve the common good,
through him who came not to be served but to serve,
Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

God of grace and truth,

in Jesus you embody your choice of us.

Bless all who make choices in this general election.

Clothe your people with gratitude

for the right to choose our government,

and turn that gratitude into clear choices.

Give those who vote your spirit of wisdom and understanding.

Uphold all who stand for election:

preserve their dignity, and guide them in the path of integrity.

Renew this nation in honour for the stranger,

respect for the different, and cherishing of diversity.

When all the votes are counted,

show us ways to foster the flourishing of all

and be a blessing to our neighbours.

In the name of Christ and the power of your Spirit. Amen.

Lord of every time and place, God beyond our dreaming,
we pray for wisdom as we prepare to vote in the Federal election.
Give us a Parliament committed to the priorities of your kingdom,
so that peace, compassion, truth and justice may prevail among us,
and make us a blessing to all peoples, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

God, bless Australia,
guard our people
guide our leaders
and give us peace;
for Jesus Christ's sake.

Amen.

Almighty God, may we fear and revere You in all that we do, knowing that You are above all and You are the giver of wisdom.

Please help us to walk in alignment with Your will and according to Your ways. We pray that You would intervene and stop the plans of evildoers, those who would desire to see hatred prevail.

"Blessed are all who fear the Lord,
who walk in obedience to him.
You will eat the fruit of your labour;
blessings and prosperity will be yours."

Psalm 128:1

Lord, as we look towards Christmas and reflect on the election and results, we pray that we may come together in unity as we remember the birth of Jesus Christ.

We pray that our communities would be bound together in love, and not divided. We pray that those who have not known the love of God will encounter you this season.

"How good and pleasant it is
when God's people live together in unity!"

Psalm 133:1

Lord, we give thanks for the privileges and responsibilities of living in a

democratic society.

Give us wisdom to play our part at election time, that, through the exercise

of each vote, your Kingdom may come closer.

Protect us from the sins of despair and cynicism, guard us against the idols of false utopias and strengthen us to make politics a noble calling that serves

the common good of all.

We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ Our Lord.

Amen.
