Dear Holy and Almighty Father, Thank You very much for all the blessings both seen and unseen that You have continually showered on me and my family. Thank You for Your presence and the sense of peace and calmness that I experienced at the check-up today. Dear Father, I commit my body and situation in Your Holy hands for Thy will be done. Thank You for the medical help which You provided immediately to ease on any anxiety. Thank You for carrying my burden. Please continue to let me hope in You, to learn to lean on You and to lift up our eyes to You in yielding to Your bountiful and endless mercies. Thank You for family, work, employment, acquaintances and colleagues who surround us. Thank You for the life You have given us all, and we pray that we may use Your precious gifts to the benefit of all around us to the Glory of Your Holy name. We place our various situations: marriage, children, health and aspirations into Your Blessed Holy hands. Father and Lord, please forgive and hear us in the name of JESUS CHRIST. Alleluia, Praise the Lord and Amen.

Compassionate God, we remember today all those whose homes and communities have been damaged by flooding in Cheshire.

We give thanks for the courage and dedication of the emergency services who have come to the help and rescue of all in need.

We ask you to look with care and love on the community in Whaley Bridge as they watch anxiously the work being done to repair the dam at the Toddbrook Reservoir.

We pray for those who have been evacuated from their homes and we celebrate the kindness of neighbours in caring for the most vulnerable and those in need.

Finally, we ask in the power of your healing Spirit to rebuild not just the physical communities which are coping with many problems today but also to give us a sense of trust in your goodness through the kindnesses of one another, in Your Holy Name.

Amen.

Lord our God, who in times past withheld rain
at the word of Your righteous prophet Elijah,
stopped floodwaters in their tracks by the prayers
of Your venerable monk Herman of Alaska, and
kept storms at bay by the blessings of Your holy
bishop John of San Francisco! Hear the humble
pleas of us unworthy sinners as well during this
season of heavy rains and flooding. Do not hand us
over to well-deserved chastisement for our many
and manifold sins, but rather have mercy on us
and save us, sparing us from the unpredictable
elements of nature, so we may lead lives of peace
and repentance for the rest of our days. In Your
love for humankind, protect us from
overwhelming rain, flooding, destruction, illness,
injury, disaster and sudden death, delivering us
from all evil and harm, through the intercessions
of our all-holy Lady Mary, the ever-virgin
Birthgiver of God, and all Your saints. Amen.

Our God and God of our fathers and mothers,
The flood waters came, wreaking havoc upon our cities, our homes,
our rescue workers, our sense of security,
And we turn to You for comfort and support.
Help us to differentiate between floods of destruction
and down-pouring of Your love and comfort.

We know that waters can destroy.
In a world decimated many times before,
having been submerged in waters
from the Florida hurricanes, the Asian tsunami, and
each of Biblical proportions,
we remember the destructive abilities of these flood waters.

Recalling now that the world, though filled with Your Glory,
is not equal to Your flawlessness,
we strive desperately, sometimes without success,
to move beyond the impulse to blame You.
Keep us far from apocalyptic thoughts, for we know that You ask us to care for
each other, an awesome responsibility.

We also know that we can seek You in the waters.
We recall Your Loving Hand, guiding us in our infancy:
From a barren rock, You brought forth water to quench our thirst,
In the midst of a journey through the wilderness, You showed Miriam a
myriad of wells which healed our parched throats,
You guided us through Yam Suf, the Red Sea, moving us past destruction
toward new life and new beginnings.
Through Your love, we found our way.

Be with us now, during these deluged days.
Draw us close to those harmed by these waters, hearing their
cries, responding to their needs.
Lead us to support those who will fix the cities,
care for the displaced, who bring healing to those suffering.
Though our attention spans seem so short, may we
be slow to forget those who were in danger.
Please bring a warm wind and hot sun from the heavenly realms
to help dry up the flood waters.

And may we all embrace at least one lesson spoken aloud by so many who -
facing the floods - rushed to pack up their valuables:

That memories of love and of time spent with family and friends
are priceless, holy and sacred.
This can never be taken away.
As we rush to meet the challenge of living in this
imperfect world of ours,
May we slow down enough to cherish those who are truly valuable -
kadosh /holy - to us.

Baruch Ata Adonai, Hamavdil bein kodesh l'chol .
Blessed are You, O God, who differentiates between the truly
Valuable and everything else.

God of compassion,
You created a world for us
To know your love and peace
Yet amidst the beauty of creation
We encounter pain and hurt
And forces beyond our control.
At times like this our hearts are shaken and ache with sorrow.

At the destruction of our lives, homes and livelihoods.
Hear our prayers for those affected by the floods
And for all those working
To bring relief and fresh hope.

Amen

Lord I pray your hand of safety and guidance upon all the victims of the regions under flood conditions. Bless these people Lord and keep them safe. Do not let the flood waters steal their lives. Drive back the floods to protect their homes and their precious animals. Bless the first responders and the volunteers working to keep people safe. God I pray you would quiet the storms and chase the rain clouds away. Amen.

Compassionate God, source of all comfort,
We pray for the people whose lives have devastated by rain and flood.
Bring them comfort, we pray.
Protect the vulnerable.

Strengthen the weak.
Keep at bay the spread of disease.
Have mercy on all those working to rescue the stranded and to feed the hungry.
And may our response to their suffering be generous and bring you praise.
For we ask it in Jesus name,
Amen.
