Prayer For Confirmation Candidates

O Lord, how awesome You are! I am so grateful for this day that I can take a step deeper into my relationship with You. I thank You for loving me enough to send Your Son into the world, not to condemn me; but that I, through Him might be saved. Lord, I give You my heart, my mind and my soul for these things all belong to You. I have been changed for the better because of You which is why I choose to stand today at this confirmation service, Amen.

God of Power, I thank You for this time of joy, hope and celebration. This is a day of deepening my faith and growing as a follower of You, I pray that I continue to be strengthened in my relationship with You. I thank You because I have not received a spirit that makes me a fearful slave, but in my relationship with You, I have received Your Spirit when You adopted me as Your own child. Now I call You, Abba, Father. Amen.

Lord, You send out Your Spirit to touch the hearts of all people, so that they may believe in
You and in Jesus whom You sent. Look kindly on all candidates for Confirmation as they
listen to Your voice. Open their hearts to Your Spirit and bring to fulfilment the good work
that You have begun in them. As we prepare these children for Confirmation, make each of
us an instrument of Your love. Teach us to appreciate what is holy in others, and to be
patient with what we do not understand. Deepen our faith in the Gospel and help us to pass
it on by our example. We pray that You will continue to guide us and sustain us. Through
Christ our Lord, Amen.

God of all ages,
You send out your Spirit to touch the hearts of all people,
Look kindly on our candidates for Confirmation as they seek to hear your voice.

As they embark on this retreat weekend, we pray that you send your Spirit to enlighten, guide, strengthen, console, and open their hearts as they continue to seek a closer relationship with you.
Help them to truly know the deep and abiding love you have for each of them and fill them with the joy of your presence

As our community prepares these children for Confirmation, make us an instrument of your love,
Teach us to reverence what is holy in others and to be patience with what we do not understand.
Deepen our faith and help us to pass it on by our example
We pray that you continue to guide and sustain us,
and teach us the Way of Love
We praise you through Christ our Lord
Amen

O God, I pray that you give me a right heart,
that I may come to know you in Jesus.
Lead me to know the sinfulness of my own heart,
and your great love for me,
in Christ Jesus.
Help those who teach me,
to give me the teaching I need.
Grant that, on my Confirmation Day,
I may be ready to give myself to be your faithful
soldier
and servant to my life's end;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

Eternal Savior, thank You for who You are! I have sworn it and today I choose to confirm it, I will keep Your righteous ordinances. I will remain faithful to You just as You have been to me. I will take my spiritual walk with You to the next level by confirming my faith in this public arena. I pray that You strengthen me daily so that I can commit to You wholeheartedly. Father, please guide me on my journey as I draw nearer to You, Amen.

To you, the candidate:

In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the bishop is the minister who, along with the praying community and in the name of the Church, calls upon the Holy Spirit. The desires and gifts of the Holy Spirit have been with you since your Baptism. With the laying on of hands, and as you are anointed with the oil of chrism, the Holy Spirit will confirm what has been true for you, and what God is still doing in you. It is that personal! So, be thinking and praying about what in particular you want the Holy Spirit to confirm in you as you are anointed in the Sacrament of Confirmation. And pray this prayer often during the formation process!

(The prayer can be prayed individually, or in a group by having each person read one statement with all responding.)
