Prayer For Confirmation

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee,
and I detest all my sins because of Thy just punishments,
but most of all because they offend Thee, my God,
Who art all-good and deserving of all my love.
I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace,
to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin. Amen

I believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Magnificent God, Your word tells me that man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers is blessed. This word encourages me to avoid thinking like, behaving like and dealing with the wicked. Today I do this as I confirm my faith to You instead. My delight is in Your Law, and on Your law, I will meditate day and night. I will be like a tree planted by streams of water that yields fruit in season, whose leaf does not wither. Whatever I do shall prosper, Amen.

God of Grace, I want to confirm my faith today as just a small token of my love for You. I must be careful to love You my God for You are holy. I will fear You and serve You with all faithfulness, and in being a confirmation candidate, I purposely throw away any gods or anything that I hold in my heart above You. I will serve You, Lord, wholeheartedly, for the rest of my days, Amen.

Heavenly Father, in the Old Testament, your prophets and priests would anoint the faithful with oil. Through this holy anointing, you made known to them their mission on earth. On Pentecost, at the birth of the Church, you sent your Holy Spirit on the disciples. On that day, the promise you gave of your Spirit was fulfilled to the whole world. As these newly confirmed go out into the world, preserve the gifts of the Spirit in their hearts. May the completion of their initiation through Confirmation help them fulfill their baptismal promises as members of the Body of Christ. Amen.

God of the living and the dead,

God of our work and play,

God of our hope and our love,

Grant us peace today.

Help us to see your hand in all things,

and help us trust your wisdom.

Help us see the gifts we have received

and use them according to the needs around us to benefit all.

Give us a generous heart

and a willing spirit

to accept the role you have given us.

Send us your Holy Spirit

to counsel us,

to strengthen us,

and to guide our ministry.
