Prayer For Unforgiveness
Magnificent Father, thank You for loving us, forgiving us and saving us. Thank You for being patient with us. Thank You for blotting out our sins and never thinking about them again. Thank You for helping each of us to forgive ourselves for past sins,
mistakes and failures. Teach us Your decrees, O Lord; we will keep them to the end. Give us understanding and we will obey Your instructions; we will put them into practice with all our hearts. Make us walk along the path
of Your commands, for that is where our happiness is found. Lord, as the Body of Christ, we give thanks to You and proclaim Your greatness. We will let the whole world know what You have done. We sing praises to You and
exalt in Your Holy Name.
Righteous Father, according to Your Word, there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. So we declare that those persons in the Body of Christ who need to forgive themselves from their past will begin
to walk in freedom instead of condemnation. They will truly recognize that they are new people in Christ; their old lives, including the sins and mistakes of the past, are gone and a new life has begun. We declare that
they know Your voice and the voice of a stranger they will not follow; so they will no longer entertain the thoughts of self-condemnation or criticism that the enemy would attempt to implant in their minds. They will destroy
every proud obstacle that keeps them from knowing You and the freedom they have in You. They will capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.
Holy Spirit, we ask You to help all of us to forgive people who have hurt us, including ourselves. Heal our emotions that have been wounded and teach us how to love unconditionally. Help us to be quick to listen and
slow to speak. Holy Spirit, remind us to use Your power living on the inside of us which helps us in all things. Lord, help us to extend mercy to others and forget the past so that we can move forward toward our futures.
Forgiving Father, we know that we have not always demonstrated Your character. Please have mercy upon us and do not take Your Spirit from us. You are our strong tower; without You we will perish. Please forgive us for
not forgiving ourselves when You have already forgiven us. Forgive us for not letting Your love flow through us. Forgive us for rehearsing our past offenses in our minds. Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that you have
committed). Holy Spirit, remind us all to forgive each other and other people, and please help us to forgive.
As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to show you names or faces of people that you may need to forgive. As He shows you, say aloud, I forgive name of person(s). Now, trust the
Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.)
Write down those things that you are struggling to forgive yourself for. After you ask God to forgive you for that sin, draw a line through it as a reminder that it is now forgiven!
Holy Spirit, help us all to not yield to temptation; but deliver us from the evil one.
Triumphant Lord, You are the eternal King, Your rule is everlasting. All the people of the earth are nothing compared to You. All of Your acts are just and true. You alone have held the oceans in Your hand. You measured
the heavens with Your fingers and know the weight of the earth. The Lord God Almighty is Your Name. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
Father, I confess that in the past I held unforgiveness and sometimes bitterness and resentment in my heart against certain people who hurt or disappointed me. I now recognise this as sin and confess it as sin, in the name of Jesus. Heavenly Father, You promised that in this world we would have tribulations. Never did you promise that we would have sunshine without the rain. Never did you say that we would be exempt from trials, troubles or injustice.
I confess to You that the injustices perpetrated upon me still ache deep within my soul. The unforgiveness in my life works like a cancer, slowly eating away what spiritual vitality I have.
Please forgive me for walking in unforgiveness. My refusal to forgive only cheapens the debt You paid on my behalf to forgive my sins. I realize my refusal to forgive affects my relationship with You as well as those who have harmed me (Matt. 6:14-15). Father, I don't want to be like the servant who was forgiven an enormous debt only to turn around and refuse to forgive another man of a pittance.
In the world's greatest act of injustice, You were nailed to a cross on false charges. I may have been wronged, but You suffered a far greater wrong than I ever will. Yet hanging on the cross You cried out, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do (Luke 23:34). Instill within me the kind of love that releases people from their debt of offense.
So this day, I release to You debts I have held over the heads of those who have wronged me. Father please forgive me of my debts as I now forgive my debtors (Matt. 6:12). And may my only remaining debt be a debt of love, even to those who have hurt me (Rom. 13:8)
Liberate me from my bondage of unforgiveness and bitterness. I want no part of anything that hinders my walk with You. Remove any cancerous root of bitterness, and heal the hurts buried deep inside with the balm of Your Holy Spirit. I choose to change the attitude of my heart toward those who have wronged me so I can forgive them from my heart. Please wipe away the memories that recount the injustices from the past and give me discernment to avoid needless hurt and pain in the future.
Whenever those weeds of unforgiveness and bitterness surface please show me that You love my offenders as much as You love me. Remind me that even in those times when I have wronged You and sinned against You, You still love me, accept me, and welcome me into Your arms.
Therefore, I leave the offenses of the past behind and clothe myself with Your love.
Father, today I ask forgiveness of all the negative and harmful words I have spoken about myself. I do not want to abuse myself in such a way again. Transform my thoughts and let me understand how marvelously you made me. Change my habits so I use my tongue to speak hope and favor upon my life. In Jesus' name.
Dear Lord, I thank You for the power of forgiveness, and I choose to forgive everyone who has hurt me. Help me set [name anyone who has offended you] free and release them to You [Romans 12:19]. Help me bless those who have hurt me [Romans 12:14]. Help me walk in righteousness, peace, and joy, demonstrating Your life here on earth. I choose to be kind and compassionate, forgiving others, just as You forgave me [Ephesians 4:32]. In Jesus' name, amen.
Dear Merciful Lord,
Thank you for your gift of forgiveness. Your only Son loved me enough to come to earth and experience the worst pain imaginable so I could be forgiven. Your mercy flows to me in spite of my faults and failures. Your
Word says to clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. (Col. 3:14) Help me demonstrate unconditional love today, even to those who hurt me.
I understand that even though I feel scarred, my emotions don't have to control my actions. Father, may Your sweet words saturate my mind and direct my thoughts. Help me release the hurt and begin to love as Jesus loves. I want to see my offender through my Savior's eyes. If I can be forgiven, so can he. I understand there are no levels to your love. We are all your children, and your desire is that none of us should perish.
You teach us to let the peace that comes from Christ rule in our hearts. (Col. 3:15) When I forgive in words, allow your Holy Spirit to fill my heart with peace. I pray this peace that only comes from Jesus will rule in my heart, keeping out doubt and questions. And above all, I am thankful. Not just today, not just this week, but always. Thank you for the reminder, Always be thankful. (Col. 3:15) With gratitude I can draw closer to you and let go of unforgiveness. With gratitude I can see the person who caused my pain as a child of the Most High God. Loved and accepted. Help me find the compassion that comes with true forgiveness.
And when I see the person who hurt me, bring this prayer back to my remembrance, so I can take any ungodly thoughts captive and make them obedient to Christ. (2 Cor. 10:5) And may the confidence of Christ in my heart guide me into the freedom of forgiveness. I praise you for the work you are doing in my life, teaching and perfecting my faith. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
Lord Jesus, for too long I've kept you out of my life. I know that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. No longer will I close the door when I hear you knocking. By faith I gratefully receive your gift of salvation. I am ready to trust you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for coming to earth. I believe you are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Thank you for bearing my sins and giving me the gift of eternal life. I believe your words are true. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and be my Savior. Amen.
