Prayer For Social Justice
Our Lord, our ever-present help in times of trouble,
we know you are all powerful, all-seeing, and all-knowing.
We praise you for your wonderful and perfect attributes.
Lord, we know that you are omnipotent,
and we also admit to ourselves and to you
that we know we are not perfect.
We come to you, as the imperfect body of Christ,
to ask for your guidance, courage, and strength
as we seek to help the refugees and immigrants in our midst.
We wish to find a way to welcome those who are foreigners and strangers;
guide us, O Lord.
Teach us to be compassionate, so that we may welcome immigrants
as documented members of your kingdom.
Guide us to do your will.
Oh Lord, may your kingdom come.
Amen.
Lord of justice and mercy,
both strong and loving,
creator of the earth and humankind,
we praise you for your omnipotence
and we thank you for your presence in our lives.
Lord, we ask that you teach us to love our neighbor,
so that we may obey your commands.
We ask that you teach us to have compassion
for our neighbors who may be different from us,
so that we truly understand what it is to love.
We ask that you give us strength to speak for those
who cannot speak for themselves.
Lord, we wish to do your will:
to promote justice and live faithfully.
We ask these things in the name of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer.
Amen.
Lord Jesus, Carpenter and King, supreme Sovereign of all men, look with tender mercy upon the multitudes of our day who bear the indignities of injustice everywhere. Raise up leaders in every land dedicated to Your standards of order, equity, and justice.
Grant unto us, Lord Jesus, the grace to be worthy members of Your Mystical Body, laboring unceasingly to fulfill our vocation in the social apostolate of Your Church. Sharpen our intellects to pierce the pettiness of prejudice;
to perceive the beauty of true human brotherhood. Guide our minds to a meaningful understanding of the problems of the poor, of the oppressed, of the unemployed, of all in need of assistance anywhere. Guide our hearts against
the subtle lure of earthly things and undue regard for those who possess them. May we hunger and thirst after justice always.
Amen.
Almighty and eternal God, may your grace
enkindle in all persons a love
of the many unfortunate people
whom poverty and misery reduce
to a condition of life unworthy of human beings.
Arouse in the hearts
of those who call you Father
a hunger and thirst for social justice
and for fraternal charity in deeds and in truth.
Grant, O Lord, peace in our days,
peace to souls, peace to our community,
and peace among nations.
Amen.
God, we pray that Your Spirit may rule over all things.
May Your Spirit rule over kings and presidents
over prime ministers and generals
over CEOs and party bosses
over the legislature and over the bureaucrats
over all citizens.
May Your Spirit guide us on the way of peace
on the way of honest dialogue
on the way of reconciliation between peoples
on the way of disarmament and justice
on the way of freedom and life for all.
May Your Spirit lead us on the journey of blessings shared with all
on the journey of educational opportunity for all our children
on the adventure of research and study that helps all men and women
on the road to meaningful work for all people
on the path of solidarity and love between all our brothers and sisters.
May Your Spirit help us
to speak up with courage
to share what we have and what we are
to challenge the powers that be
to offer a message of liberation and life.
We make this prayer through Christ, our Lord. Amen
Grant us, Lord God, a vision of your world as your love would have it:
a world where the weak are protected, and none go hungry or poor;
a world where the riches of creation are shared, and everyone can enjoy them;
a world where different races and cultures live in harmony and mutual respect;
a world where peace is built with justice, and justice is guided by love.
Give us the inspiration and courage to build it, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
God, you have given all peoples on common origin.
It is your will that they be gathered together
as one family in yourself.
Fill the hearts of humankind with the fire of your love
and with the desire to ensure justice for all.
By sharing the good things you give us,
may we secure an equality for all
our brothers and sisters throughout the world.
May there be an end to division, strife, and war.
May there be a dawning of a truly human society
built on love and peace.
We ask this in your name.
Grant, O God, that your holy and life-giving Spirit may so move every human heart, that the barriers which
divide us may crumble, suspicions disappear, and hatreds cease, and that, with our divisions healed, we
might live in justice and peace; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
