Prayer For Respect

Father, this is an area of my life in which I need healing and restoration. The mistakes that I made before and after my children were born have stripped me of self-respect. How can I teach my children respect if I am not modeling it in front of them? Today I make a decision to forgive everyone who has wronged me. They could never repay what I believe they have stolen from me. (Determine what you feel has been taken from you, let it go, and trust God.) In the name of Jesus, I repent of and renounce all resentment and bitterness, and I stop it from controlling my children or me.

Father, I receive Your forgiveness, and I forgive myself for the sins and mistakes of the past. This day I reclaim my self-respect because I am Your child, and my sins are forgiven. I come with clean hands and a pure heart asking You to let me see my children as a heritage from You.

Oh, my Father, I am the elder, the voice of authority, in my home. Give me the vision of caring for the children You have entrusted to me. Create in me a willing heart to watch over them, not for what they can do for me, but because I am eager to serve You. I would not lord it over the children You have assigned to my care, but I vow to lead them by my good example. And when You, the head Shepherd, come, my reward will be a never-ending share in Your glory and honor.

It is my desire that my children will honor and respect those who are over them in the Lord, admonishing and loving them. They will hold authority figures in the highest regard in love because of their work, and we will live in peace with each other.

In my heart, I set apart Christ as Lord. May I always be prepared to give an answer to my children when they ask me to give them reasons, and I pray that I will do so with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience. I purpose to listen to my children, praise them, and treat them with respect.

As a human father/mother, I will discipline them, and know that they will respect me for it. This will prepare them to submit to You, their heavenly Father, and live. Later on, it will produce a harvest of righteousness and peace for my children who have been trained by it.

As they walk in self-respect with a right attitude toward their father/mother, they will honor both their father and their mother, as You, the Lord our God, have commanded, so that they may live long and that it may go well with them.
Father, thank You for being a mother/father to my children who respect a command, and they will be rewarded.

In Jesus' name, amen.

Lord Most High, by Your Word the heavens were made; the starry host was made by the breath of Your mouth. You gather the waters of the sea into jars; You put the deep into storehouses. Let all the earth fear You Lord; let all the people of the world revere You. At Your command, the world came to be, and it stood firm. Your plans stand firm forever, the purposes of Your heart through all generations! From heaven, You look down and watch all who live on earth You, who formed the hearts of all: You consider all we do (Psalm 33:6-15). Sovereign Lord, because I revere You, may I cherish and show respect for all You have made.

I humbly confess that I do not always show respect for some of Your most wonderful creations human beings. My own sinfulness echoes in my ears when I hear the same disrespectful tone in my children's voices as they have heard me use. Please replace my self-serving attitude with a loving graciousness that helps me see others the way You do as precious treasures, worthy of tender care and respect. Please remind me to be respectful when I interact with my spouse, my children, friends and neighbours, especially when I am upset. Please forgive me for the times I have modelled a disrespectful attitude for my children.

I pray now for my children, ________ and ________. Please infuse their hearts with a deep reverence for You and all that You have made. Place in them a longing to read Your Word and a desire to obey Your commands. Please inspire them to be respectful and considerate of others and give them a willingness to put others first. Because they have a healthy fear of You, I pray that my children will serve those in authority with their whole heart out of respect for the Lord and to honour those individuals by obeying their instructions (Ephesians 6:7). In Jesus' name, I ask that You will protect ________ and ________ from the schemes of the devil who will try and persuade them to honour themselves instead of others. Because the sins of self are linked to disrespect, please expose any roots of rebellion, selfishness or pride in my children's hearts, and destroy these attitudes through the power of Your Holy Spirit.

Lord, You formed each of us in the womb. You are the Lord who has made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens and who alone spread out the earth (Isaiah 44:24). Our desire is to revere You and treat all You have made with deep respect. Please send Your Holy Spirit to enable our family members to be respectful and considerate of everyone. In all we say and do, we want to honour You, for You are great and most worthy of praise; You are to be feared above all gods (1 Chronicles 16:25). Amen.

All mighty God, giver of all that is good. We thank you for the precious gift of human life.

For life in womb, coming from your creative power
For the life of children, making us glad with their freshness and promise
For the life of young people, hoping for a better world
For the life of the handicapped and disabled, teaching us humility
For the life of the elderly, witnessing the ageless values of patience and wisdom.

Like Blessed Mary, may we always say yes to your gift. May we defend it and promote it from conception to it's natural end and bring us at last oh Father to eternal life, in Jesus Christ our lord. AMEN

Heavenly Father,
the beauty and dignity of human life
was the crowning of your creation.
You further ennobled that life
when your Son became one with us in his incarnation.
Help us to realize the sacredness of human life
and to respect it from the moment of conception
until the last moment at death.
Give us courage to speak with truth
and love and with conviction in defence of life.
Help us to extend the gentle hand of mercy and forgiveness
to those who do not reverence your gift of life.
To all, grant pardon for the times we have failed
to be grateful for your precious gift of life
or to respect it in others.
We ask this in Jesus' Name.

Amen.

Holy Father you fashioned the universe and made order from chaos. Thank you for bringing order to our lives. Help us to respect the authorities you have established for the sake of the world and for the Church. Guide us by your spirit to serve your will. Amen.
