Prayer For Rescue

O gracious God, we will never understand the sorrows of the world, but by your grace we will not turn away from them. Renew and sustain in us the spirit of love that crosses miles. Cheer and encourage those who labor to help the injured, the homeless, the hungry and those in despair. Bless and soften the hearts of those who would take advantage of tragedy for their own profit, that they may come to know where true joy is to be found. Unite us in prayer with all those who look for help, and use us to come speedily to them with the things that they need. We ask these things in your own most holy Name. Amen.

Dear God,

Save me.

Deep waters surround my soul,

And I can't find a foothold.

I am sinking as life's floods engulf me.

I'm weary and exhausted from crying out for help.

I can't see you, Lord, for all the tears have swelled my eyes;

My vision is blurred.

You already know the sin in my heart; I give it to you.

You know that the enemy tries to destroy me with lies.

Even the people I love sometimes misunderstand me.

But no matter what is said to me, or about me,

My prayer is to You alone.

Lord, hear me in your mercy.

With your never-ending, reckless love delivered in your perfect timing,

Pull me from the deep and rescue me.

Don't let the waves overwhelm me, or the deep waters engulf me,

Or the pit of death devour me.

Answer my prayer, O Lord.

For Your love never fails.

Because of your great mercy, you never give up on me.

Don't hide from me; I desperately need to hear from you.

Draw near to my soul and redeem it.

For I long to praise your salvation with a thankful heart.

Amen

Dear heavenly Father, your beauty is beyond compare; your love is better than life; your faithfulness is without question; your grace is without limits; and your mercies are new every single day. We praise, bless, and adore you. There is no god like you; there is no God but you.

We rejoice in your pit-rescuing goodness today. Father, I don't know what pit of despair King David was writing about in this Psalm, but I can name a great number of pits from which you have been faithful to rescue us, and others for which we now trust you for rescue.

We worship you for plucking us out of the pit of graceless religion and gospel-less spirituality. Father, thank you, thank you, thank you for opening the eyes of our hearts to see the greatness of our need and your even greater provision for us in Jesus. There is no life apart from Christ and no hope without the gospel of your grace. That we are now in Christ means we will one Day be out of every conceivable pit.

We trust you to rescue us from pits we've been pushed into, fallen into, and those we've jumped into. Father, rescue us from the pits of self-pity and vain-regrets. You have forgiven our past. There's no need to beat ourselves up with if-only's. Rescue us from the pits of unforgiveness and bitternessperhaps the most daily and deadly of pits. You can be trusted with our pain and with putting things rightin your time and in your way.

Father, rescue us from the pits of hopelessness and melancholy. A vacant cross and empty tomb are all the evidence we need that you can be trustedno matter our story, no matter the issues, no matter the mess. From these, and every other pit, we wait upon you for rescue. So very Amen we Pray, in Jesus' bold and beautiful name.
