Prayer For Pilots
The LORD is my supreme Controller,
I shall not crash.
2 He makes me to fly in clear skies;
He leads me to quiet airfields.
3 He restores my soul;
He guides me around towering cumulus
For His name's sake.
4 Even though I fly through severe thunderstorm activity,
I fear nothing; for Thou art with me;
Thy stormscope and Thy weather radar, they comfort me.
5 Thou dost prepare a localizer and glideslope before me in the presence of low ceilings and turbulence;
Thou hast kept the wind at my six;
My fuel tank overflows.
6 Surely SARSAT and Flight Following will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will fly in the heavens of the LORD forever.
The Lord is my pilot, I shall not drift
He lighteth me across the dark waters;
He steereth me in the deep channels.
He keepeth my log.
He guideth me by the star of holiness for his namesake.
Yea though I sail mid the thunders and tempests of life,
I shall dread not danger, for thou art near me .
Thy love and care, they shelter me.
Thou preparest a harbor before me in the homeland of eternity.
Thou anointest the waves with oil, my ship rideth calmly .
Surely sunlight and starlight shall favor me on the voyage I take,
And I will rest in the port of my God forever. Amen
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free; I'm following the path God laid for me
I took His hand when I heard Him call;I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day, to laugh, to love, to work, or play.
Tasks undone must stay that way. I've found that peace at the close of the day.
If parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah, yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow;I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much;Good friends, good times,a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief;Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me --God wanted me now, God set me free.
As the events of the day continue to unfold, we seek Your clarity and Your peace. We know You are with us and for us as we gather together to seek Your counsel. Scripture reminds us the more we seek You the more we will find You. Lead our surrendered hearts to the path of Your peace today.
Come fully into our situation, both as a group and individually. And sort out the muddled feelings and distorted thoughts that plague us. Cover us with a blanket of honesty and patience that is not of this world.
O Master, Lord Jesus Christ our God, Who didst walk upon the waters as upon dry land, and didst deign to have Thy holy disciples and apostles as Thy fellow voyagers in the ship; and didst rebuke the stormy wind, and command the waves of the sea to be still: Be pleased now also, we humbly pray Thee, O Savior, to sail with [name] in his ship/plane, allaying every unfavorable wind and tempest: And raise up special and timely winds for a successful voyage, being Thyself even unto him a pilot, and a saving; an untempestuous and tranquil haven unto him and his ship/plane. And as Thou didst save Peter from drowning, so also in sovereign wise, deliver Thou [name] from all assaults of enemies, both visible and invisible, and from calamity, and distress, and fear, by Thy Right Hand omnipotent: And graciously vouchsafe that he may return to his home in peace, health, and happiness; having accomplished his purpose and enterprise. Do Thou richly bestow Thine inexhaustible grace upon his deeds, and preserve the ship/plane whole and unharmed. For thou art the Savior, and the Deliverer, and the rich Giver of all good things, both spiritual and temporal, and unto Thee we ascribe glory: To the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings.
Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hovering there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air,
Up, up the long delirious burning blue.
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew;
And while with silent uplifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God!
Oh controller, who sits in tower
Hallowed be thy sector.
Thy traffic come, thy instructions be done
On the ground as they are in the air.
Give us this day our radar vectors,
And forgive us our TCA incursions
As we forgive those who cut us off on final.
And lead us not into adverse weather,
But deliver us our clearances.
Thank you that I have the privilege of flying aeroplanes. Thank you that I can take to the skies, see earth become small and fall away beneath me. O Lord, help me to fly with skill and diligence, to follow procedure and to keep those I carry safe. Alert me to difficulties and dangers, so that I have time to respond and pray.
And as I take to the skies, come lift my heart too. May I always give thanks for the goodness in my life. As the earth blurs away beneath me, come give me your heart for it. Please inspire my mind to see everything through your eyes. And may my prayers be free, dynamic and effective from this perspective! Lord, lead me closer to you each time I pilot this plane.
