Prayer For Mental Illness Recovery

Wonderful Father, You are great and most worthy of praise. You are to be feared above all gods. The earth is Yours and everything in it; the world and all its people belong to You. You laid the earth's foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean's depths. You are the King of glory; the Lord strong and mighty. You are the Lord, invincible in battle. O Lord, you have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. We are grateful that when we, Your people, call to You for help, You hear and rescue us out of our troubles. Thank You for giving us Your peace and joy. Thank You for providing a life of hope, abundance, and destiny. Thank You for being our strength in times of weakness.

Father, You are the Lord God Almighty! Let the whole world glorify You, Lord; let it sing Your praises! You will march forth like a mighty hero. You will come out like a warrior, full of fury. You will shout Your battle cry and crush all of Your enemies. You alone are worthy to receive glory and honor and power. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Still my mind Lord. Come anchor me in your word and save my thoughts from endless drift. I will not go out onto the sea until my heart is at rest. Pull me into your harbour, for the ebb and flow of tides has left me dizzy, all at sea. I need a chance to just abide, to feel my feet touch solid ground. May time stand still until I find I'm filled up, until I've been re-fashioned and re-made. Help me gather up my feelings, sift the memories, tend to the cracks. Help me search for tides that keep me, when I'm ready to go back. Then when I feel the winds are changing, I'm sail ready, strong and full. I'll be safe on my adventures, prepared and restored in you.

Dear Lord Jesus, I come before you to ask for the restoration and healing of my mind. Thank you that you became fully human and walked amongst us, so you understand the complexities of the human brain. So I lay this mental illness before the cross. I surrender it now to your grace, knowing that you have paid the price for my freedom. Come, Holy Spirit bring the touch of new balance, correction and wellbeing to my thought life. Come into the memories of my past and the confusion of my present with new hope, hope for a future of breaking free from mental illness into a new dawn. Lord, right now I trust in the power of your unfailing love and grace, and the freedom that is found in you. Come release me into all the good things that you have instore for me. Amen.

O God, who has so faithfully cared for me in the past, and so often seen me through to safety:
Grant me that in moments of depression, desolation, failure and despair,
I may look back in gratitude. . . .

Comfort those who live with the darkness of depression. May we be a light in the darkness for them. Teach us to avoid false cheerfulness, and instead give us wisdom to know how to help our friends and family who struggle in this way to come up for air. To see, again, your goodness. Lord, watch over those who are, even now, contemplating suicide. Stop their hands. Send someone to intervene.

Comfort and relieve those who are troubled in mind and spirit.
Bring them hope, peace and the consolation of a loving community.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Grant patience and courage to the families and friends of those who are ill.
Increase their perseverance as they face challenges to recovery for their loved one.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Protect and defend those living with mental illness from exploitation, addictions and abuse.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Loving God, we pray today for those who are confronted by the sadness,
ambiguity and confusion of mental illness, and for those upon whom they
depend for attention and compassionate care. Look with mercy on all
whose afflictions bring them weakness, distress, confusion or isolation.
Provide for them homes of dignity and peace; give to them understanding
helpers and the willingness to accept help. We ask this in the name of
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
