Prayer For Adoption

Dear heavenly Father, we thank You that children are a gift from You and that their angels are always in Your presence in heaven. (Matthew 18:10) Today we pray for _________________ (name of child or unknown/unborn child God has already chosen for us) who is in need of a new family better able to care for, nurture and love them.

We also thank you, Father, that you have given loving hearts to ____________________ (name of prospective adoptive parent(s) and that they feel called by their love for this precious child to begin the adoption process. You know the difficulties that _______________ have gone through and the prayer and effort they have put into their decision to adopt. Here are some of the obstacles and problems they have encountered so far in their journey toward receiving the child of Your choosing _______________________.

Thank you, Father God, for adopting us into your family. Affirm us, God our Father, as part of your great story. Lord God, we pray for all those who care for vulnerable children. We thank you for the privilege we have to serve you and be your hands and feet in this world.

Lord, supply all their needs from the abundance of your riches. Miraculously stretch what they have to be enough.

Father, the longer this child is in their new prospective home, the stronger the bonds of love are growing each day. We pray that You will help all involved child, prospective parents, grandparents, birth parents and friends cope with the stress of not knowing if and when the adoption will be final. We pray specifically for the following mercies and grace _________________________________.

We pray that your will be done in this precious child's life and that this child will be surrounded by love and nurtured in the knowledge of You so they may grow into the strong, secure, beautiful person you desire. Here are the blessings we pray for this child _______________________________________.

Guide us as we pray and make us instruments of healing and help in this situation. And guard our own hearts with the knowledge that You are here and that You care. In the name of Jesus who blessed little children by taking them into his arms, Amen.

Lord, bind this family together in love for You and for each other. Heal trauma and bind up the brokenhearted. Allow love for you and for each other to cover a multitude of sins. Give them opportunities to have fun as a family.

Lord, help me to reserve my judgments out of love and respect for this family. Allow me to be a support to them in their time of need. Help me to listen and love well. Give me eyes to see and ears to hear how I can encourage and support them.

God, you do love adoption. You've adopted us into your family, giving us all rights and privileges of family. We are heirs and co-heirs with Jesus of all your treasures. We pray today for those seeking to adopt a child. Many children in the world do not have mothers and fathers. Many men and women do not have children. God, bring them together. Create the perfect match. Provide resources. Provide perfect timing. Give endurance and emotional strength through the grinding details. Give wisdom for them to anticipate ahead how to prepare practically for the coming change. Strengthen their marriage ahead of this coming gift. Heal any past disappointment. Parental love is nature. Adoptive parental love has to be SUPERnatural. Give a miracle of love and bonding. May nothing stand in the way of you accomplishing a completion of this match child to parent. In Jesus!

Generous and Divine Trinity,
We give thanks for the presence
Of our holy brothers and sisters.

We give thanks that you created the world,
Though it turned from your ways.
We give thanks that you began a people
To bless this world,
Though it did not always bless.
We give thanks, with greatest reverence,
For the gift of your Son Jesus Christ,
Who indeed blessed the world.
Thanks be to God for the signs and glory of
The Lamb of God.

In him, we are all adopted children of God.
We are brought into the divine redemption,
Which now subsists in each embrace,
Each extension of love.
Each sacrament,
Each kiss and act of service.

May the adoption of this beloved child _____ (name of adopted)
Be blessed.
Almighty God, you adopted the people in Egypt,
and they came out into the wilderness to pitch a tent.
May (we) the family of this beloved child,
Enjoy the presence of God,
In the tent of life together,
As they (we) look toward the pillar of fire by day
A sign of your coming glorious redemption.
And the pillar of cloud by night
A sign of your presence amidst our trials and darkness.

In Christ, the Son of God,
there is neither adoptive nor natural parents and children.
We are all born again in the Spirit of God.
This Spirit redeems us with the substance of faith, hope, and love.
May this child be blessed by the mysterious presence, mercy, and grace
of the Trinity,
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Amen.
