Saint of the Day
St. Bartholomew the Apostle

St. Bartholomew, identified with Nathanael in John's Gospel, was one of the twelve apostles. Tradition holds that he preached the Gospel in India and Armenia, where he was martyred.

Scripture Reading

John 1:45-46

Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see."
Reflection
Bartholomew (called Nathanael in John's Gospel) began with skepticism and ended with devotion, eventually carrying the Gospel as far as India according to tradition. Philip's simple invitation — "Come and see" — was enough to change everything. The best evangelism is rarely argument. It is the patient, open invitation to encounter the real thing.
Prayer for Today
So fill us with your love
that it might cascade
into the ordinariness
of our working lives,
and others experience
the warmth of its flow,
spreading from hearts
and words and deeds;
an unbroken stream
bringing refreshment
to all that it touches.

Amen.
