Saint of the Day
St. George
St. George was an early Christian martyr, likely a Roman soldier who refused to renounce his faith and was executed around 303 AD. He became a symbol of courage and faithfulness under persecution, venerated across the Eastern and Western church.
Scripture Reading
James 4:6, 10
But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, 'God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.'... Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
Reflection
Humility is not self-deprecation or denying your gifts — it is an accurate assessment of who you are before God, and a willingness to receive from him rather than demanding on your own terms. God gives grace to the humble; he actively opposes the proud. This is not a threat but a description of how reality works — pride closes the hand that could receive grace. Open your hands today in humility, and receive what he is offering.
