Scripture Reading
Revelation 3:7-8
"These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut."
Reflection
Christ holds the key of David — the authority to open prison doors, to unlock what sin has locked, to swing wide the gate of heaven itself. No power in earth or hell can close what he opens. This Advent, whatever door has seemed shut to you — in relationships, in hope, in your own heart — bring it to the Key of David, who sets before us open doors no one can shut.
Prayer for Today
Lord, the light I choose to let into my life today is based on my trust in you. It is a weak flame, but I so much desire that it dispel a bit more darkness today. Today, I just want to taste the longing I have for you as I go to the meeting this morning, carry out the responsibilities of my work, face the frustration of some difficult relationships. Let this candle be my reminder today of my hope in your coming.
Amen.
