Scripture Reading
Luke 17:20-21
Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, "The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, nor will people say, 'Here it is,' or 'There it is,' because the kingdom of God is in your midst."
Reflection
On the eve of Advent, Jesus challenges our instinct to look for God's kingdom in dramatic external events. The kingdom is already breaking in, already present — in acts of mercy, in moments of reconciliation, in the gathering of God's people. Advent will soon ask us to wait with expectancy, but today's word is this: do not miss what is already here. The kingdom is in your midst.
Prayer for Today
Lord, how I long to break free from negative thinking and embrace peace and joy and optimism. I invite You to begin transforming my thought patterns and help me recognize, reject and replace thoughts that are not pleasing to You.
In Jesus' Name, Amen.
