Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
Reflection
John writes with the bluntness of a pastor who has seen too many fine declarations that produced too little practical love. Words about love are cheap; love that costs something — time, money, comfort, reputation — is the real thing. Today, let your love be measured not by what you have said but by what you have done for someone in need. Faith without works is simply a beautiful theory.
Prayer for Today
My heart is feels like a thousand knives are running through it. I am weary, spent, and just so sad. Please, help me! Hear my prayers. Hold me and my family up. Give us strength. Be present. Be persistent in your love. Carry us through this heartache.
