Prayer For The Mourning

You hold time within your hands, and see it all, from beginning to end. Please keep and carry these precious people in their sadness and loss. Cover them with your great wings of love, give their weary hearts rest and their minds sound sleep. Lord, lift their eyes so that they may catch a glimpse of eternity, and be comforted by the promise of heaven.
We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus.

Amen

God of love and mercy,
embrace all those
whose hearts today
overflow with grief,
unanswered questions
and such a sense of loss.
Grant them space
to express their tears.
Hold them close
through the coming days.

Father,

Praise You for Your omnipotent hand of protection over our lives. Even through we come to You with downcast hearts, we know in full confidence that You are able to lift us out of our grief. You are our Healer. You know our hearts, from our aching hurts to our feelings of despair. As the frigid winter air freezes the ground, our hurting hearts tend to harden. Mourning isn't easy, and we'd often rather go it alone, or avoid it all together. When we wish to close everyone off and isolate our hearts, empower us to bring the broken pieces of our hearts to You.

Death is difficult, but we are promised to be reunited with our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ in heaven. For those of us that mourn the loss of a fellow believer, we know that our pain is temporary, and that theirs has now passed away to eternal peace with Christ in heaven. Though it's difficult to say good-bye, we know that Your presence is more than enough to restore our peace and fuel our continued perseverance of Your purpose for our lives on this earth.

Forgive us for wallowing times of despair and hopelessness. Holy Spirit, translate the groaning of our heart to the Father that sits above all in sovereignty. Relieve feelings of anger, confusion, depression, anxiety, and all other maladies of the heart and soul the coincide with grief and mourning. Help us to adjust to life without the one we mourn.

Thank You for the time we were granted with their sweet soul while their time on earth ran it's course. For the ways they helped us grow closer to You, and challenged us to follow the course You set out for our lives. For those of us saying goodbye to mentors and teachers, seeds of doubt that we can walk as courageously without them will temp us to falter. But the remnants of their love for You will carry on in our lives in ways that we may never comprehend. Help us to retain their memory, Father. May our memories be swift, and our grief be short.

We know that every life is numbered perfectly by You, and we trust You first with the our lives, and the lives of the ones we love on this earth. Help us to let go, knowing every life belongs to You, first. Bless us with an appreciation of the mark they left in Your honor on this earth, Father. May they rest in the peace of Your arms, until we see them again.

In Jesus' Name,

Amen.

May you be held by the God of compassion
as you remember your loved ones today.

May God be with you in your sorrow,
and comfort you in your loss.

May your God, your family and your friends,
give you strength and confidence.

May your spirit be lifted, may your heart be filled with peace,
and may the light of God's promise fill you with joy and hope.

Amen.

Lord Jesus, I know that You are close to those that are broken-hearted and grieving in their soul and that You rescue those that are crushed in spirit. Draw near to Your many children who are facing times of sadness and loss, and draw each one ever closer into Your precious arms of love and support.

Thank You that You are wonderfully good to all who wait for You and seek You, and I pray that those of my brothers and sisters in Christ who, for whatever reason, are facing times of grief and hardship in their lives, that in Your grace and mercy You would draw very close to each one and gently carry them on Your shoulders, as a Shepherd carries a little lamb that has been torn by the briars.

Be close to all that are grieving today I pray, and flood their souls with hope, knowing that underneath are Your everlasting arms.

Give me a heart that is sensitive to those that are grieving, the wisdom to know when to speak words of comfort or when to keep silent. And Lord, I also pray that You would use my life to be a channel of encouragement and hope, through whom the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ will flow into their hearts, to heal and help.

Thank You, Lord, that You are a God that answers prayers.

Amen.

Loving Father, I am finding it so hard to even get up out of bed to start the day, knowing that I have to face it alone and without the one I love so dearly. I know that without Your grace and sufficiency I could never get through the day, but I thank You that You have promised to be with me and to provide me with Your strength for today as well as bright hope for tomorrow.

I can't imagine tomorrow being anything but a day filled with pain, as I do not have my loved one beside me, but I ask that in Your grace You will give me the strength to get through today, step by step, knowing that You are there to carry me, even when my heart seems to fail from the grief and pain that I am going through.

Thank You. that You have promised to carry our pain and thank You that Your grace is sufficient for every eventuality in our lives. Give me the strength to cope with the loneliness I feel and help me to move forward in my life-plans, knowing that You are with me, to support and strengthen.

Give me hope for tomorrow, for my hope and my trust is in You, Lord. Hold me close I pray, and thank You for always being with me and the great comfort that I have in knowing You, as my own dear Saviour and friend.

Amen.

O God, I come to You filled with hurt and sadness and even anger because of my great loss. Lord, I know that You have a plan for each of our lives, but I am in such pain and grief that it is hard to focus on the truth that You do care and that You have had to face deep grief and loss too. Lord, my hurt and pain runs deep and I feel that my heart is breaking. I ask you to touch my hurting heart.

I know, Lord, that You are the God of comfort and that You have been with me every step of the way. I ask You to draw ever closer to me at this time for I feel that my whole world has been shattered.

I find it hard when people who don't understand try to say words that they think are comforting but sometimes it makes the hurt even worse and I feel hurt and so very, very alone.

Lord, I know it is true that in time the pain will lessen but please be with me, hold me close and steady me, for I know that without You I could not face another day, another hour.

I keep thinking about that song we used to sing when I was younger, never a heartache, and never a groan, never a teardrop, and never a moan, ever a danger but there on the throne, moment by moment He thinks of His own.

Hold me Lord I pray, and keep me moment by moment,
Moment by moment I am kept in Your love,
Moment by moment I've life from above,
Looking to Jesus till glory doth shine,
Moment by moment, O Lord, I am Thine

Thank You Lord that You are my God,

Amen.

Bless those who mourn, eternal God, with the comfort of your love that they may face each new day with hope and the certainty that nothing can destroy the good that has been given. May their memories become joyful, their days enriched with friendship, and their lives encircled by your love.
