Prayer For Temptation
O Christ, Son of God, for our sake you fasted forty days and allowed yourself to be tempted. Protect us so that we may not be led astray by any temptation. Since man does not live by bread alone, nourish our souls with the heavenly food of your Word; through your mercy, O our God, you are blessed and live and govern all things, now and forever. Amen.
Behold me, O my God, at Your feet! I do not deserve mercy, but O my Redeemer, the blood which You have shed for me encourages me and obliges me to hope for it. How often I have offended You, repented, and yet have I again fallen into the same sin. O my God, I wish to amend, and in order to be faithful to You, I will place all my confidence in You. I will, whenever I am tempted, instantly have recourse to You. Until now, I have trusted in my own promises and resolutions and have neglected to recommend myself to You in my temptations. This has been the cause of my repeated failures. From this day forward, be You, O Lord, my strength, and thus shall I be able to do all things, for I can do all things in Him who strengthens me. Amen.
Dear Lord Jesus, I ask for Your strength and help to resist ungodly temptations and not to give in, knowing that to do is not to glorify You and does me nothing but emotional and spiritual harm.
Help me to take every tempting thought captive and hand it over to You before it takes a hold of me and does harm to me or to other people. Help me in my weakness to know You as my strength, and help me in my foolishness to know You as my wisdom. Help me I pray, to resist all forms of temptation and give me the strength to say no and walk away from temptation, especially when there are others involved, who directly or indirectly, willingly or unknowingly. are encouraging my downfall. And deliver me Lord I pray, from habits that are entrapping and enslaving me in actions that are detrimental to my spiritual health and walk.
Replace the thoughts that tempt and tease me with those that turn my focus on Jesus, and help me in all things and learn to say, "Thy will not mine be done." In Jesus' name I pray,
Amen.
Dear Lord Jesus, I know that my flesh desires to do what is contrary to the leading of the indwelling Holy Spirit of God, and that the new life in Christ, which I received when I was born again, is constantly in conflict with the old sin nature, which was severed at the cross but which still seeks to rule my life. Lord, I know that sin is certainly crouching at my door and seeking to devour me, but I do believe that greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world, and that in the power of the Holy Spirit I am able to resist the many temptations that entice towards sin.
Help me to recognise when temptation is knocking at my door and enable me to act immediately, so as to resist its influence and gain the victory, which only comes through Christ.
Help me not only to recognise temptation, but to capture each and every tempting thought as it enters my mind and to hand it over to You in prayer and praise, knowing that Your grace is sufficient to meet every temptation, when I am yielded to You.
Lord, I pray that not only will you enable me to recognise and resist temptation, but may I grow in grace and in the knowledge of You as I seek to carry out Your will for my life in the power of the Spirit. In Jesus' name I pray,
Amen.
Heavenly Father, I believe that temptation is not a sin while yielding to temptation certainly is, and so I come to pray that You would help me not to yield to any temptation, whether it is a temptation of the body or the mind. Keep me pure in thought, word and deed for Lord, I want to follow You and I want to live my life to Your honour and praise.
Father, I believe that no temptation comes to any of us that is not common to all men and that by Your grace You always provide an escape from temptation. Help me not to be tempted and give me the eyes to see and grasp hold of the escapes from temptation that You, in Your grace, offer me.
Lord, You know the areas of my vulnerabilities and You know when and how I will be tempted today and in the days that lie ahead, and Lord, although I know that I must make the choice not to succumb to temptation, I do ask that you would prompt me to flee temptation, and to walk in the light of the glorious gospel of truth. In Jesus' name I pray,
Amen.
O God, the troubles are many. The trials are great. The temptations are strong.
But I remember there is no temptation that comes to man that is unique or has never come to another. We are taught that Jesus suffered all temptations that are common to man and yet, In Him was no sin neither was guile found in His mouth.
O Lord my God, keep me pure within so that I may live a clean, pure life that will not disgrace You and will bring me the greatest benefit.
I believe, O God, that peace of mind is attainable. I believe peace of mind to be Your will for all people. Help me to seek and find Your peace, O God.
Amen.
Father God, I do not deserve Your mercy or grace. I am not worthy to gather the crumbs from under Your table, but I thank You that I have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb and in Jesus name, am able to approach Your throne for the grace and strength I need to keep me from falling, so that I may walk in Your ways and live godly in Christ Jesus.
Lord, I desire to be faithful, but I have yielded to temptation on so many occasions and though I have tried so hard to live up to my own standards and resolution, each time I have failed and fallen short. Lord, I know that I have tried to resist in my own strength and I confess that I cant do this by myself any more.
I pray that You would teach me to draw my strength from Your fathomless resources rather than to rely on my own limited supply. Teach me to trust my life into Your hands completely and to submit to the leading of the Holy Spirit in my life, so that I may walk in spirit and truth. Teach me what it really means in Your Word when it says without me you can do nothing, so that I may learn the truth that I can do all things through Christ Jesus, Who gives me the strength. I ask this in Jesus' name,
Amen.
Dear Lord Jesus,
I try hard not to stumble in my walk of faith, but you know the temptations that I face today. I experience desires that lead me away from you. Sometimes the temptation seems too strong for me. The desires seem too
powerful to resist.
I need your help in this battle. I cannot walk alone, Lord. I need your guidance. My flesh is weak. Please help me. Fill me with the power of your Holy Spirit to give me strength. I cannot make it without you.
Your Word promises that I will not be tempted beyond what I can bear. I ask for your strength to stand up against temptation each and every time I encounter it.
Help me to stay awake spiritually so that temptation won't catch me by surprise. I want to always pray so that I won't be dragged away by evil desires. Help me keep my spirit well fed with your Holy Word so that I remember
you are living in me. And you are greater than every power of darkness and sin that is in the world.
Lord, you overcame Satan's temptations. You understand my struggle. So I ask for the strength you had when facing Satan's attacks in the wilderness. Don't let me be dragged away by my own desires. Let my heart obey your Word.
Your Word also tells me you will provide a way of escape from temptation. Please, Lord, give me the wisdom to walk away when I am tempted, and the clarity to see the way out that you will provide. Thank you, Lord, that
you are a faithful deliverer and that I can count on your help in my time of need. Thank you for being here for me.
In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray,
Amen.
