Prayer For Someone Who Died Suddenly

Lord Jesus, you are the master of life and death. You said, I am the resurrection and the life, and this morning we believe this with all our hearts. And, Lord, you know far more than we do what death is all about. So we come to you in our pain and in our sadness. Draw near, O Lord, for we desperately need your help.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on us. Have mercy on our friends. Have mercy on the whole family. You have promised to be near to the broken-hearted. Come near, O Lord, come near because we need you so much. Grant the wisdom they need to think clearly about the decisions that must be made this morning. Help them to rest in you. We thank you that heaven is a real place and that when you said, Today you will be with me in paradise, you were speaking to all of us who believe in you. Last night those words came true for __________. Thank you that he is finally home, safe at last, where no pain or sickness or sadness can touch him any longer.
We are the ones in need this morning. Help us because we are your children. Help us so that our faith will not fail. Help us so that we may somehow bring glory to you.
In Jesus' name, Amen.

Mighty God, thank you that you are my creator, you know me better than anyone else. You know the pain and grief I feel at this time. You have promised that you will make all things work together for my good. Please provide comfort for me and use this difficult time to develop my character. You are the God of peace. May you sanctify me completely, and may my whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of the Lord, Jesus Christ. You, who called me, are faithful to the end. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Compassionate and loving Father, thank you that I am never alone, your presence calms the troubled sea of my life and speaks peace to my soul. Your word says that my faith will never be put to shame when my trust is in you. Hear my prayer as I ask for comfort in dealing with the loss of my loved one. Help me to find strength and peace in your presence. Restore joy to my soul. Lord, bless me and keep me, make your face shine upon me. Turn your face towards me and give me peace. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

O my God! This is Thy servant and the son of Thy servant who hath believed in Thee and in Thy signs, and set his face towards Thee, wholly detached from all except Thee. Thou art, verily, of those who show mercy the most merciful..

O God, forgive our living and our dead, those who are present among us and those who are absent, our young and our old, our males and our females. O God, whoever You keep alive, keep him alive in Islam, and whoever You cause to die, cause him to die with faith...

Time has stopped. How can it possibly carry on when the sudden loss of my loved one has overcome me? Darkness fell. Where is the light they brought each day and the warmth of their embrace? Joy buried. My heavy heart feels empty, lonely, frozen by the fragility of life taken. And yet I still come to you Lord in this timeless, dark and frozen place where my heart resides. Time stopped when you took your final cry, your last breath of great suffering. Darkness fell, as your Father had to turn, to wait, to suffer a separation from you his beloved son. Joy buried with you in the tomb, hopeless, finished cold. And yet I know that you arose from that heartless, lonely and frozen place. You rose to life and extinguished the power of death. Thank you that my loved one has arisen with you into heavens glorious light. Thank you that right now they are alive in this place of incomparable beauty and eternal love. Lord Jesus, in you I trust. Amen.

In your hands, O Lord,
we humbly entrust our brothers and sisters.
In this life you embraced them with your tender love;
deliver them now from every evil
and bid them eternal rest.

The old order has passed away:
welcome them into paradise,
where there will be no sorrow, no weeping or pain,
but fullness of peace and joy
with your Son and the Holy Spirit
forever and ever.

Amen.
