Prayer For People In Jail

Heavenly Father, I bring before You the many men and women who are incarcerated behind prison bars and been deprived of their freedoms, due to their many and various crimes.

Father, You alone know the heart of each one and the reason why they are imprisoned, and You alone are the One that can bring these men and women to repentance, and to a saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Father, You alone can convict these people of their crimes, and I pray for each one, knowing that You died to pay the full punishment for each of their sins. And Lord, although it is only right that men and women face the bitter consequences of their crimes, I pray that they will come to an understanding that in Christ their sins may be forgiven, and that each one will come to true repentance by trusting in the Lord Jesus as their Saviour.

I pray that You would send into the different prisons around the country and indeed the world, those who would minister to these prisoners in their need, and tell them of Christ and the wonderful forgiveness of sins that comes from Him alone. Have pity in each one I pray. In Jesus' name,

Amen.

Loving Heavenly Father, I pray for the many Christians who are being held in prisons, both at home and abroad, simply because they trust in the Lord Jesus as Saviour, many of whom have been falsely accused of crimes or deliberately set up to fall foul of the law, simply because they are believers in Your name.

Lord, I pray that You would be with each one in their imprisonment. Break any bonds of fear and bitterness, and may the love of Jesus be shown forth in their actions and attitudes, so that the people around them, recognise that there is something very special about them, and the God Whom they serve.

Set each one free, I pray, not only from their physical incarceration but also from their spiritual prison. Help them to rest in the Lord Jesus, knowing that in a small part they are participating in the fellowship of His suffering.

Use each one as a witness of Jesus Christ, and may many be drawn into the kingdom of God, simply because of their gracious love they display in their time of great difficulty. In Jesus' name,

Amen.

Great God in heaven, thank you for those who have received eternal life in Jesus Christ, and for those who have been born again behind prison bars. Please Father, enable them to see hope that is found only in Jesus Christ. Give them a desire to seek Him, and to long for that eternal home when all of the present, evil and suffering will be history (Rev 21:4). Please send them Your Spirit to point them to Your Word of hope in Your Holy Word, the Bible. Apart from You, and Your Word, we could not know You or Your Son, Jesus Christ, so thank You for granting us Your mercy and giving us Your grace, and for those who You have pardoned, even if the state has not, they are seen as having Jesus' righteousness (2nd Cor 5:21). Help them to see that You have pardoned them, without parole, and loved them unconditionally. Lord God, allow them to fix their eyes on You, and the hope for a future we can't even imagine, and that hope is found in Christ, in Whose precious name we pray, amen.

Father God, I pray for those prisoners who are behind bars and that You give those who've trusted in You, peace. Please help them to know that You are sovereign over all things and that much good can come from bad (Gen 50:20; John 3:16), and in even these men and women's darkest hours, You are their true source of light which is found in Jesus Christ. I pray that you give them the peace that Your Word promises for those who believe in Your Son (Rom 5:1) and please help them to know they are no longer condemned (Rom 8:1). With the comfort that You give us, please give to them Lord, so that they might pillow their head tonight in peace, knowing that if you would come tonight, those doors would be open forevermore. I ask this for the glory of the Lord, Jesus Christ, in Whose name I pray, amen.

Awesome God, have mercy on your children that have been incarcerated in prisons all over the world. Let your light shine upon them that they may turn their lives around for the better. May they know who you are and your mercies towards them irrespective of what they have done. Please give them the grace to manage prison life and help them to become the men and women that you created them to be for the glory of your holy name. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

Father God, I lift everyone that is in prison into your able hands. Lord, they have not only broken the law, but they have sinned against you. Forgive them for going against your word. Life in prison is tough and most people, especially new inmates, are at the mercy of old inmates. But Father, we know that you are in charge of their lives and you will not let anyone hurt them. Cover them with your wings and keep them safe. In Jesus' name, I believe and pray. Amen.

O Lord Jesus Christ, who in a wonderful Sacrament hast left unto us a memorial of your passion: Grant us, we pray, so to venerate the sacred mysteries of your Body and Blood, that we may ever perceive within ourselves the fruit of your redemption; who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Almighty God, you have promised to hear the petitions of those who ask in your Son's Name: We pray mercifully to incline your ear to us who have now made our prayers and supplications unto you; and grant that those things which we have faithfully asked according to your will, may effectually be obtained, to the relief of our necessity, and to the setting forth of your glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
