Prayer For Peace In The World

Lord, in your mercy
hear our prayer.

We pray for the recovery of the injured. We pray for those who have to live with permanent disability. We pray for politicians; grant them wisdom and courage to search for reconciliation and peace.

Lord, in your mercy
hear our prayer.

We are all created in your image. Grant us courage to recognize every person's human, religious, civil and political rights. Help us to build a culture of peace, justice and reconciliation. Free us from all hatred and bitterness.

Lord, in your mercy
hear our prayer.

Our Lord Jesus Christ said to his disciples, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you." (John 14:27) Give peace to your church, peace among nations, peace in our homes, and peace in our hearts. Merciful God, accept our prayers and yearnings. You are our only strength, refuge and hope. In the name of Jesus - our liberator and redeemer.

Amen.

Grant us peace that will
BREAK our silence in the midst of violence
then prophetic voices shall resonate

Grant us peace that will
PULL US DOWN from the steeple of our pride
then we'll learn to wash each other's feet

Grant us peace that will
EMPTY us of hate and intolerance
then we'll turn guns into guitars and sing

Grant us peace that will
SHUT our mouths up when we speak too much
then we'll learn to listen and understand what others are saying

Grant us peace that will
DISTURB us in our apathy
then we'll dance together under the sun

Grant us peace that will
BURN our lethargic hearts
then we'll endure burning and let love and justice glow, Amen

Dear God,
I claim peace for all nations now,
and to begin I ask to let there be peace on Earth,
and let it begin with me.

May divine love and wisdom work together
in the hearts, minds, and lives of all people
to bring this peace about.

I know that with God all things are possible
and I see those who seem to be full of hate and fear
allowing God's love to penetrate their very being,
filling them with love, peace, and God's guidance.

Thank you, God, for answered prayer.

God of life and hope,
we pray for our nation and for the guidance of your Holy Spirit,
that you will give wisdom and courage to our leaders
that together we may work for the common good.
Lord, come to bless us,
and fill us with your Spirit.
We thank you for the peace that your Holy Spirit brings:
in these days of change protect us from anxiety
and keep us confident of your love.
Lord, come to bless us,
and fill us with your Spirit.
We thank you for the healing of your Holy Spirit:
where there is division or discord in communities,
we ask you to bring reconciliation and peace.
Lord, come to bless us,
and fill us with your Spirit.
We thank you for the gifts of your Holy Spirit:
as we move into a new chapter in the life of our nation
we ask you to equip us for all that lies ahead.
Lord, come to bless us,
and fill us with your Spirit. Amen

Grant us, Lord God, a vision of our world as your love would make it:
a world where the weak are protected, and none go hungry or poor;
a world where the benefits of abundant life are shared,
and everyone can enjoy them;
a world where different races and cultures live in tolerance and mutual respect;
a world where peace is built with justice, and justice is guided by love.
And give us the inspiration and courage to build it,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Bless the hands
that bring wholeness
to lives blighted by sickness.
Bless the saints who
in sad and desperate places
bring a sense of hopefulness.
Bless the Christians
facing daily opposition,
showing a faithful witness.
Bless the generosity
of the rich and powerful,
for the gift of thoughtfulness.
Bless the peacemakers
working in conditions
that are often hazardous.
Bless the politicians
whether good or bad,
for their decisions affect all of us.
Bless our words and actions
as we carry your light
into places shrouded in darkness.
Bless your children,
whoever they might be,
with the warmth of your love and grace. Amen
