Prayer For Overcoming Anger
Lord, You are all-powerful and almighty. You created the sun and the stars, the seas and the heavens above, the earth and all creatures upon itthe very universe and time itself. Who then are we to stand in Your way and let our tiny flares of rage ignite? Help us to step back and allow You and only You to reign supreme. Help us to know and take comfort that You will dole out Your holy wrath justly and completely.
Enable us to rest in the peace of being Your child, Your people, knowing You will handle all things in Your perfect time. Help us set aside the fury and the frenzy, the angst and the nascent seeds of hate beginning to sow. Let us remember the wisdom you gave us through Your servant, James, that everyone should Be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires (James 1:19-20).
Let us remember the proper motivationnot pride, not prejudice, not personal insult or attack, not fear, but rather a deep and pure affront to God and all You hold dear. Allow our anger to make room for You at the center to honor You and to care for Your people above all. Give us a spirit of peace and rest in You. In Your holy name we pray, amen.
Oh, Lord, we know from Your Holy Word that anger can well up inside us, turn our thoughts from You and channel them into destructive, evil notions that lead us astray. We are often brimming over with emotion. From happiness and surprise to anger, fear, and disgust, our feelings are natural and by design. Some of these feelings are glorious and blissful, but others, left unchecked, can steer us away from You and all the good You intend. Sometimes they fester so long and so deep they begin to rot inside of us. Lord, hear our prayer. Amen.
Forgive me Lord, for the pain I have caused, for I know my anger has hurt so many people. Yet I realise that my sin of anger is directed against You and it is against You alone that I have sinned in this way.
Also, I pray that You will create in me a forgiving heart towards all those that have hurt me so deeply. And knowing that the Lord Jesus forgave me so many sins, I confess that I too should forgive others, just as God for Christ's sake forgave me all my sin.
Thank You that in You I have victory against all my sin, including my anger for in Christ the power of sin has been broken in my life because I trust in His name.
Thank You Lord. I trust You to take away all the anger within me and fill me with Your perfect peace, for You have promised to keep all in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You.
Amen.
Lord, I know that the only way to deal with my anger is to keep my heart and my thoughts focused on You, Who took the punishment for all my sin, all my anger, all my hatred.
I know that forgiveness, true genuine forgiveness toward those that have hurt me so badly is the way to deal with the root of the problem. Help me to say as You did on the cross, "Father forgive them," and to keep my heart looking to You.
I confess my anger Lord and ask for Your forgiveness. Create in me a clean heart, forgiving heart, I pray,
Amen.
O Lord, my God, you are my shepherd. You guide me and provide for me. When I start to feel resentment due to the circumstances around me, remind me that you have prepared a table for me and you can give me peace. Your anointing and blessings are upon every aspect of my life. Remove my resentment and set me free from frustration. May your goodness and mercy follow me all the days of my life that I may dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.
Everlasting God, your peace surpasses all my understanding. When anger rises within me, please calm my mind and soothe my heart with your gentle words. Fill my whole life with your perfect peace. May my personality be shaped by your peace rather than my frustration. With your Holy Spirit in my life, I can overcome anger. May I reflect your character, being slow to anger and rich in steadfast love. Look upon me and cause your face to shine upon me. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. Let no one say when he is tempted, I am being tempted by God, for God cannot be tempted with evil, and He himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. James 1:12-15
