Prayer For Haiti

Dear Lord,

We lift up the nation of Haiti and all those affected by the devastating affects of Hurricane Matthew.

We pray for those who have lost loved ones and ask that you will be near to them during this time. Comfort them and let them know your presence in the midst of their deep grief.

We pray for Tearfund and our partners on the ground as they bring help and aid to those in the worst-hit areas. We ask you Lord for wisdom and strength so that we might be able to respond to this humanitarian disaster in the most effective and compassionate way possible.

We also pray for wisdom and discernment for the government and local leaders as they decide how to respond in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, and start to identify the immediate and longer term needs.

Thank you Lord that it says in your Word in Hebrews 6:19, We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.'

Thank you God that you are good, and we praise and bless your Holy name.

In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen

Dear God, we know you hear those prayers, and we add ours to theirs. Please let all who love the people of Haiti join with them, on the ground, at round tables, making space Haitian people of all walks. Please help us to walk with them, listen to their ideas and step in when invited to be partners with the people of Haiti as they take steps toward a better life for all.Dear Lord, we know your heart, too, has broken time and time again by the centuries of abuse the Haitians have suffered: by nature, by other nations, by their own government.Ten years ago, we all yearned to believe that this massive earthquake would signal the change to an island nation already deep in poverty, already a land of broken promises.

We hoped that so many of us who love this nation and her courageous people would accompany them toward real, lasting change for the better.

But it hasn't happened, Lord.

Please, we pray, let us hear their voices, let us amplify their voices, strengthen our hearing so we will listen to our friends in Haiti, your most beloved children, and walk with them toward the bright, lively and whole life they deserve.

We pray this in the name of your precious Son, Jesus Christ.

Amen

Lord, we pray for Haiti and the Dominican Republic as the countries continue to recover from Hurricane Matthew. We praise you for children and families who've been given the provision to rebuild their homes and livelihoods. We pray for the Church in Haiti to continue to provide support to communities devastated by the disaster.

Gracious and loving God over all creation,
We pray this day for the country and people of Haiti. You
created them in your image, and made in them a longing for
liberty. They led the Americas in the struggle against slavery,
and, though they were the first to win lasting freedom, their
struggles have never ceased. As you heard the cry of Hagar in
the wilderness, we give you thanks that you have heard the cry
of your people of Haiti calling out for justice.
Bring healing and prosperity to Haiti, Lord God, and protect
her from those who would abuse her. Let her sorrows cease
and her joy abound. Let her generosity be known in all the
lands, and her glad songs of freedom be heard to the ends of
the earth.
And to us, O Godwe who hold Haiti in our heartsgive to us
the humble spirit that you gave to Naaman. Let us lay aside our
armor of defensiveness and pride, and come before the people
of Haiti with open hearts and open hands. Show us how to
bless them by our prayers, our aid, and our resources, and let
us receive from them a blessing in our hearts. Teach us to do
justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with you, O God, that we
can stand before you unashamed, hand in hand with our
Haitian brothers and sisters.
Amen.

Creator God, the earth groans and shakes, breaks hearts in its wake, and amid cries of pain and suffering, you weep with us, gathering us as one, into communion with each other. Quake our hearts so we may be bearers of mercy and hope in all parts of the world.

We pray especially for the people of Haiti. In thousands of ways each day, you remind us of your presence in the joy of a life saved, in the constancy of faith among the suffering, in the ways people who have less than little share with each other. And our hearts joy at the goodness to be found even in places of decay and desolation. In our prayers and in our own efforts to help our sisters and brothers in Haiti, may we find the hope you have for us, to live as people who give, to live as people who proclaim the reality of the redeeming love of Jesus Christ. Assist the Redemptorists who are in Haiti working to bring about this love. May your Holy Spirit renew in us a zeal for bringing about peace and justice, and for being people of hope and service.

Our Mother of Perpetual Help, patroness of Haiti, pray for us!
