Prayer For Government Officials And Employees

Heavenly Father,

We thank you, first of all, that you rule over all of the nations on earth. Every country, state, city, municipality and principality is ultimately under your control. We recognize, however, that you have given to us the concept of government in order to protect us and to look after the common good of a group of people. We thank you that in the United States, there is a system of government that, while still flawed, seeks to represent the will of the people of this nation and to work towards their common good. In the past two weeks, Lord, we have witnessed our government officials, particularly those in the legislative and executive branches, struggling to discern how to rightly respond to what seems to have become routine public mass shootings and acts of violence. We pray that those in authority would seek your will, first and foremost, even while listening with respect and compassion to the will of the people, especially our young people, many of whom have demonstrated great courage, passion, and poise in the face of these tragedies. We pray that you would provide them with Your infallible wisdom, so that they may act in accordance with what is best, not merely what is most politically expedient.

We pray that those in authority who have used their power and influence to malign and disparage our young people, or attempted to use them to further their own ambitions, would repent from these ways and instead regard the victims and their families with compassion, respect, and honor. We pray, Heavenly Father, that officials from differing perspectives and opposite sides of the aisle would come together in unity in order to create laws and to act, not only for those from whom they have received money, endorsements, or votes, but for all people under their jurisdiction and influence. We pray that this would be the case for all public officials, from our President, congress, and supreme courts, to our state governors, legislators, and federal and state judges, to our local mayors, city councils, and township offices.

Finally, Lord, we pray for your protection over our leaders. Protect their hearts and minds as well as their bodies, so that no evil may befall them as they do their work. Bless them as well, for they carry a heavy burden on behalf of this nation. Heal our nation, Lord, of the hatred and evil that we have allowed to permeate our society, and make us whole so that we may truthfully say that we are one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

We ask these things in the strong name of Jesus Christ, whom with you and the Holy Spirit, reign one God, now and forever, Amen!

When our government leaders and civil servants pursue evil and abuse their power, lead them to humility and repentance. Empower those serving in government who love You to stand up for what is right and speak truth in love, no matter the consequences.

While exercising our responsibilities as citizens to speak up for righteousness and stand up against evil, teach us how to honor and pay our debt of love toward those with whom we disagree. Keep far from us, rebellious attitudes and hateful and snarky speech, unbecoming of a child of God. May no critical word leave our mouths that has not been spoken humbly before Your throne as we pray fervently for those who serve in government. But when policies and laws violate Your will, help us to humbly disobey them and commit our wellbeing into your hands as we wholeheartedly obey You.

Lord, thank You for Your dominion and reign over every living thing and over the entire universe. There is not one square inch of creation over which you do not cry, Mine! This belongs to me Nor is there any ruler's heart beyond Your reach. We ask for You to accomplish Your divine will through the leaders of our country, states and cities, no matter their commitment to follow You. Lord, turn their hearts to accomplish Your will, even the most self-serving. And whoever our leaders may be, we ask You to turn their hearts so that Your Kingdom come, Your will be done,on earth--in our country, states, and cities--as it is in heaven.

Lord, You are the source of all wisdom. We pray that you would impart your wisdom to our government leaders, that they may pursue the welfare of the city the good of every citizen.

But Lord, we acknowledge that in America we share this responsibility with our rulers. Give us all the wisdom of Solomon to provide equal opportunity for everyone to succeed in their work, reach their goals, and pursue their dreams. May we work tirelessly to untangle the many social issues which plague our society. Give us wisdom and the ability to work together with men and women of opposing political persuasions to seek the welfare of our cities, states, and country

God of power and might, wisdom and justice,
through you authority is rightly administered,
laws are enacted, and judgment is decreed.
Assist with your spirit of counsel and fortitude
the President and other government leaders of these United States.
May they always seek the ways of righteousness, justice and mercy.
Grant that they may be enabled by your powerful protection
to lead our country with honesty and integrity.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Father, I'm praying for (name them) and other government and community leaders throughout our towns, cities, states, and nation...

Save those who are not yet Your own. Give those in authority wisdom in every decision, and help them to think clearly. Grant them discernment and common sense so they'll be strong and effective leaders. (Titus 3:5; James 1:5; Proverbs 3:21)

Help them to lead and govern with integrity, and may their integrity guide them and keep them on track. (1 Kings 9:4; Proverbs 11:3a; Psalm 78:72; 1 Timothy 2:14)

Be merciful to give us leaders who are Spirit-filled and follow Your principles. Direct their steps according to Your Word for their decisions have a great impact on our lives! (Ephesians 5:18b; Psalm 119:105, 133a)

Be their defender and protector, and keep them always on guard. Help those who are Christians to be strong and courageous, standing firm in their faith and influencing others for Your kingdom. Encourage and strengthen them, giving them the wisdom they need. Help them to have courage and faith in You, no matter what they're facing day-to-day. (Proverbs 23:11; Psalm 41:2a; 1 Corinthians 16:13; Deuteronomy 1:38; 3:28; 2 Chronicles 1:10a; Acts 27:22, 25)

In Jesus' name, Amen.

Lord, we pray for our members of Congress, both in the Senate and the House of Representatives. Reveal yourself to them and bring them closer to you, each in their own unique way, that they may hear your voice clearly and distinctly. Speak to them of truth, integrity, justice, and fairness. Return them, we pray, to the good and lofty aspirations they had when they ran for office in the first place to help others, to right wrongs, and to make the world a more beautiful place. Give each one of them strength to reach out to those across the aisle and work together. We boldly pray that you would bind their hearts together in ways they would not have imagined; let them declare, as King David did, How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity! (Psalm 133:1 NIV). (Jesus, we believe what you said, what is impossible with man, is possible with God [Luke 18:27 NIV].)

Let them see the good works done by people of faith across their states and their districts. Let their eyes be opened to what you are doing through your Church and the precious believers across the country. Give them a desire to promote things that honor you, not just their own political careers. Cut through the clutter of politics-as-usual and self-promotion. Let them hear your voice speak to them of honor, sacrifice and purity.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

Jesus, you were born in a little town. You grew up under the authority of local leaders and officials who managed the majority of your daily life. We lift up our local leaders today. We pray for our mayors, city councils, county commissioners, police chiefs, judges, and all who serve our local communities. Strengthen them with wisdom and grace for the heavy burdens they carry. May they manage their teams and projects with love. Keep their hearts pure and their eyes turned toward your face as they work in the best interests of the people they are called to serve.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
