Prayer For Comfort In Loss
Dear Father, I lie in the arms of your love, And pour out my anxious thoughts to you. Abba, I'm choosing to rest here in the warmth of your embrace. I give you the things I cannot face, the struggles, the trials and the fears. Father, I will let my tears fall on you, for I know you catch every one and will never let me go.
Comfort me with Your love O God Wrap me up in Your strong embrace Shelter me from the storm O Lord Envelop me in Your tender care By day I pour out my heartbreak to You By night I give you my racing thoughts In You I take refuge In You I will not be afraid For you hold me strong, You hold me safe Calm my fearful heart O God Still my anxious mind O Lord For all my life is found in You All my being is given to You All my hope begins in You
Abba Father, You hold time within your hands, and see it all, from beginning to end. Please keep and carry these precious people in their sadness and loss. Cover them with your great wings of love, give their weary hearts rest and their minds sound sleep. Lord, lift their eyes so that they may catch a glimpse of eternity, and be comforted by the promise of heaven. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.
Jesus, You know what it is like to feel that God has abandoned you. You know pain and loss better than anyone else. Come to us now and let us feel your presence. We know that you are close to the brokenhearted and comfort those who mourn (Psalm 34:18). Help us to let you into our grief, to give you our anger and doubt. Jesus, pull us out of the void. In your name, Amen.
Father, grant me gospel joy; help me to rejoice in Christ even as I grieve. Envelope me with the peace and comfort only you can provide. As the days move into months, may this burden lessen. As the months move to years, use me to encourage and bless someone else who must walk a similar path. Help me to point them to you as the God of all comfort. I know that you are always with me and that your love never ceases. Help me to find refuge in you and nowhere else.
I cry for those of us left behind, for the lonely ones with hollows in our hearts. I ask You to comfort us, give peace, restore hope, and lavish us with love, family, and belonging. In the depths of loss, meet us with Yourself.
I cry for the legacy this loved one leaves, for the ways the world has been made different by their presence, for the memories that become both more beautiful and more painful on this side of death. And I pray that the work You have accomplished in this remarkable life will grow deeper, wider, and stronger in the days to come, uninhibited by a weak opponent like death.

May you sanctify me completely, and may my whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of the Lord, Jesus Christ. You, who called me, are faithful to the end.
