Prayer For Comfort For A Friend

Dear Lord,

I lift up Your dear, grieving child to You today.

Thank You for being the God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3). Please help this child of Yours to feel Your loving arms of comfort around them now and always.

Thank You for promising to never leave us or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6; Hebrews 13:5). I pray that Your grieving child would have a strong sense of Your presence in the midst of their pain.

Thank You that You, too, were a man of sorrows, familiar with suffering, and acquainted with grief (Isaiah 53:3). Help Your precious one to find consolation in knowing that You can sympathize and empathize with their pain, since You have experienced it Yourself.

Thank You for enduring the excruciating pain of sacrificing Your one and only Son, of watching Him be crucified, of enduring the indescribable separation from Him. Thank You for going to such great lengths to show us Your love. Help Your child now to see the depth of Your love and the extent of Your understanding.

Thank You for being a God who heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds (Psalm 147:3). Please heal this dear child's broken heart. Bind up their wounds. Grant them an unwavering hope in You, the ultimate physician and healer. And Lord, please give them patience as they wait on You.

Thank You for promising that one day, You will wipe every tear from Your children's eyes. Thank You for promising that one day there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain (Revelation 21:4). Please use this experience to increase Your child's desire to be with You in heaven.

Help Your dear child to realize that even though it might not feel this way at the moment, this light and momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison (2 Corinthians 4:17).

Lord, even in the midst of grief, I pray that hope would prevail. Cause Your grieving one to possess an anchor of hope within, firm and secure (Hebrews 6:19). Thank You that Your grace is sufficient, and that Your power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Show us Your glory even in the midst of heartache.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

O Lord,

I walk in a bleak landscape.
I feel empty and the weather seems cold.
I keep putting one foot in front of the other,
Yet have little strength to lift my head.
Lead me through this dark valley,
Be with me and hold me close.
I trust that eventually I will find myself
At the peak of this grief mountain.
I want to see again, to feel again and to live again.

Amen.

Dear Heavenly Father, our God of all comfort, there is special balm for our souls in the awareness that Your Son also experienced a broken heart (Psalm 69:20-21). He knows this pain; He is familiar with this ache. I pray that You would help my friend cling to You and the truth of Your Word in times of sorrow, running to You as her Comforter and the Restorer of her soul. It's in the name of my Savior, Jesus Christ, that I pray. Amen.

Bless the God and Father of your Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort! Thank Him for comforting your friend in all her affliction, so that she may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which she is comforted by God. For as she shares abundantly in Christ's sufferings, so through Christ she shares abundantly in comfort too (2 Corinthians 1:3-5). Marvel at the mystery of sharing in Christ's sufferings, and thank Him for His promised comfort for your friend.

Praise God for His Word! For whatever was written in it was written for your friend's instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures she might have hope (Romans 15:4). Ask Him to help your friend grab hold of His Word and cling to His truth during her time of heartache.

Dear God,

Our hearts are burdened for our friends who are hurting right now. We ask that you would be their comforter, that you would cover them with your infinite grace and mercy, surrounding them in peace during this dark season. We pray for fresh grace, for renewed strength, for your goodness and mercy over their lives today.

We thank you that you alone are our refuge and strong tower. We thank you that no matter what we face, you are still on the throne, you are still in control, and nothing can ever stand against you. Thank you that you hold the victory in this world, and you have promised in your Word that you will be with us through any hardship we may face.

We know that only in you do we have the hope to face dark and uncertain times, for our future is held secure through the gift of Christ. We ask for you to extend your hope and compassion to our loved ones right now. In these days when they're struggling, or seem to have lost their way at times, would you please remind them that you are still here. With them. Close. That you are bigger than this storm they're facing, and you promise to hold them secure.

Thank you God that you are with us always, that your presence is mighty, and you hear our prayers on behalf of those we love. We ask that you would show yourself strong on their behalf. Remind them that nothing is too difficult for you, and you are leading them through this difficult time, covering them in your care. We know and believe beyond any doubt, that your power and love will never fail.

You are always trustworthy. You are all-powerful. You are fully able. You are Lord over every situation no matter how difficult it may seem. You are our healer and will never waste the pain we carry today. You promise to use all things for good in some way, because you are a God of miracles and nothing is too difficult for you.

All these burdens we carry for our friend today, we lay at your feet, Lord. We give them to you, and we thank you that you hear our prayers and are at work on their behalf even now. Thank you that you fight for us, even when we can't see all that you're doing, even when we can't fully understand your ways. We know that nothing can ever separate us from your great love and care, and our loved ones are safe in your hands.

In Jesus' Name,

Amen.

Heavenly Father,

It is so hard to watch _________ suffer. It doesn't seem fair for her to have to endure so much pain. Even though I am powerless, I believe that you are powerful and capable of stepping into this situation and completely altering the outcome. In faith, I am responding to the promises in your word that you listen to our prayers and those prayers can make her well. So, I am bringing my friend before you to ask for your healing touch in her life. Thank you for the forgiveness of sin and the promise of eternal healing, but I am asking you to provide healing for her on this side of heaven. Amen.

Dear Lord,
I pray for my friend right now. I pray that you will help them with the struggles they are going through in this season. For you know exactly what they need in this moment. Draw near to them and let them feel your presence. Open their eyes, ears, and hearts to you. Help them have the discernment to hear your voice as you lead them in their next steps. Speak to them as they read your word and bring verses of encouragement and comfort to their attention. I pray that you will calm any fear or anxiety they may be feeling. Replace it with the confidence to obey your word and to trust you. I pray that your guidance will be clear to them from this day forward. In your name, I pray. Amen.
