Prayer For A Dying Friend

Wonderful Counsellor, what no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what You have prepared for those who love You. The place that You've prepared for Your people when they die here on the earthly realm is beyond what they could even think or imagine! Thank You for being the limitless God of Abundance! There is nothing too great for You, not even death, Amen

Dear Lord, I know that this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: Death is swallowed up in victory O death, where is your sting? I rejoice in knowing that death is not the end for us, we have eternity with You. You do not forsake us in death. Instead, you show us how to find our way back to You through death, Amen.

God of Love, help us find comfort in Your word that tells us that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. I pray that even in death we know that we are not separated from You and Your omniscient power, Amen.

Dear heavenly Father, my dear friend who is closer to me than a brother or sister, is fast approaching the time when You will gather them in Your arms and take them home safely, to the heavenly shore.

Thank You, Father, for their life and witness and for their great love for You. Thank You for the encouragement they have given so many over the years, and for the gracious spirit that marked the way they have walked.

Lord, I know that their one joy and delight is to be with You forever, but it means that we will be left alone here. I know we will not grieve as the world grieves, for our hope and trust is in You, but I know we all will miss them so much. I will miss them so much Lord, for they have been such a sweet fragrance in my life, and the lives of so many with whom they fellowshipped.

Enfold them with Your love, dear Lord, and I pray that at the right time they will close their eyes in this world for the last time, only to open them to see You. How I worship You for all Your goodness and loving-kindness. Thank You, Father, for the privilege of having such a godly friend for so much of my life.

In to Your hands I commend this precious one - my dear friend, who has been closer to me than any brother or sister.

In Jesus' name I pray,

Amen.

I commend you, my dear brother/sister,
to almighty God,
and entrust you to your Creator.
May you return to Him
who formed you from the dust of the earth.
May holy Mary, the angels, and all the saints
come to meet you as you go forth from this life.
May Christ who was crucified for you
bring you freedom and peace.
May Christ who died for you
admit you into his garden of paradise.
May Christ, the true Shepherd,
Acknowledge you as one of his flock.
May He forgive all your sins,
And set you among those He has chosen.
May you see your Redeemer face to face,
And enjoy the vision of God for ever.
Amen.

Saints of God, come to his/her aid!
Come to meet him/her, Angels of the Lord!
Receive his/her soul and present him/her to God the Most High.

May Christ, who called you, take you to Himself;
may Angels lead you to Abraham's side.

Give him/her eternal rest, O Lord,
and may your light shine on him/her forever.

Let us pray.
All-powerful and merciful God,
we commend to you N., your servant.
In your mercy and love,
blot out the sins he/she has committed
through human weakness.
In this world he/she has died:
let him/her live with you forever.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

God, Help [Insert Name] discover your peace. Let them receive your comfort. Help them to be at rest knowing that you care for them, and that you love them. Calm their soul as they move into the afterlife. May they spend eternity with you; may they live forever in your presence. Amen.

O God, our heavenly Father, have pity on your children in great bodily weakness who are drawing near the gates of death. Send your dear Son to meet with them on the way, and to stay with them, for the day is now far spent, that he may comfort them with the Word of your goodness, and break with them the bread of eternal life; through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
