Prayer For A Bride And Groom

Dear heavenly Father (or "Oh Lord"), our hearts are filled with great happiness on _____________ and _________________'s wedding day, as they come before You pledging their hearts and lives to one another. Grant that they may be ever true and loving, living together in such a way as to never bring shame or heartbreak into their marriage. Temper their hearts with kindness and understanding, rid them of all pretense of jealousy. Help them to remember to be each other's sweetheart, helpmate, friend and guide, so that together they may meet the cares and problems of life more bravely. And with the passage of time, may the home they are creating today, truly be a place of love and harmony, where your spirit is ever present.

(optional mention of children in prayer here; see prayer including children below)

Bless this union we pray, and walk beside _________________ and ________________ throughout all their lives together. We ask these things in Jesus name; AMEN

O God of love, Thou has established marriage for the welfare and happinessof mankind. Thine was the plan, and only with Thee can we work it out with joy.
Bless this husband. Bless him as provider of nourishment and raiment, and sustain him in all the exactions and pressures of his battle for bread. May his strength be her protection, his character be her boast and her pride, and may he so live that she will find in him the haven for which the heart of woman truly longs.
Bless this loving wife. Giver her tenderness that will make her great, a deep sense of understanding, and a great faith in Thee. Give her that inner beauty of soul that never fades, that eternal youth that is found in holding fast the things that never age.
Teach them that marriage is not living merely for each other; it is two uniting and joining hands to serve Thee. Give them great spiritual purpose in life. May they seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and the other things shall be added unto them.
May they never take each other's love for granted, but always experience that breathless wonder that exclaims, Out of all this world, you have chosen me.
When life is done and the sun is setting, may they be found then as now, hand in hand, still thanking God for each other. May they serve Thee happily, faithfully, together, until at last one shall lay the other into the arms of God. This we ask through Jesus Christ, great Lover of our souls.

Almighty God
To the bride and groom
Loom large before them
In their deep love, be the greater, deeper love
May their joys ever ring with eternal joy
In their trials give them comfort and hope
Comfort not only in their own embrace, and ours
But in the strong, unfailing embrace of your everlasting arms.
To the bride and groom
Give grace
Grace that walks and loves, serves and saves
Give them wisdom
To see truth, to shun falsehood, to listen to you, to sift, to learn, to declare.
To the bride and groom
Give a long, rich, happy life, a godward life that looks to a better home, lasting treasure and an eternal reward.
Give forgiveness that never relents,
Gospel-shaped kindness
Surrounding and abounding
Grace
To the bride and groom.
Be their benchmark of compassion, of truth, of righteousness.
As you've given them a heritage, grant them grace to in turn build their own heritage of family, faith and fruit.
To the bride and groom
Be provider and protector
Show yourself to them and show yourself through them
Almighty God
Bless them and keep them
Make your face to shine upon them
Be gracious to them
Lift up your countenance upon them
And bring your peace
To Laura and Tim
To the bride and groom
In our Saviour's name
Amen

Holy Father,
who formed man in your own image,
male and female you created them,
so that as husband and wife, united in body and heart,
they might fulfill their calling in the world;
O God, who, to reveal the great design you formed in your love,
willed that the love of spouses for each other
should foreshadow the covenant you graciously made with
your people,
so that, by fulfillment of the sacramental sign,
the mystical marriage of Christ with his Church
might become manifest
in the union of husband and wife among your faithful;
Graciously stretch out your right hand
over these your servants (N. and N.), we pray,
and pour into their hearts the power of the Holy Spirit.
Grant, O Lord,
that, as they enter upon this sacramental union,
they may share with one another the gifts of your love
and, by being for each other a sign of your presence,
become one heart and one mind.
May they also sustain, O Lord, by their deeds
the home they are forming
(and prepare their children
to become members of your heavenly household
by raising them in the way of the Gospel).
Graciously crown with your blessings your daughter N.,
so that, by being a good wife (and mother),
she may bring warmth to her home with a love that is pure
and adorn it with welcoming graciousness.
Bestow a heavenly blessing also, O Lord,
on N., your servant,
that he may be a worthy, good and
faithful husband (and a provident father).
Grant, holy Father, that, desiring to approach your table
as a couple joined in Marriage in your presence,
they may one day have the joy
of taking part in your great banquet in heaven.
Through Christ our Lord.
R. Amen

Father of mankind, whose nature is love, look with favor upon this woman and this man who desire to make their vows before you. We are grateful for the providence that has led to this union. Grant this to be more than an outward union, but also the blending of hearts and spirits and purposes. Bless each with the inward qualities of integrity, trust, cooperation and forgiveness, that they may live together in love and peace. Amen.

Being a bride is a scary, nerve wracking time. Praying before the big day for wisdom and guidance will help calm down fear and anxiety. God is with each and every bride as they enjoy the journey of engagement.

May I, as a bride, be the wind beneath my husband's wings, the one who believes in him more than any other human, continually committed to supporting and encouraging him no matter what. And may I remind him I am not going anywhere and never will. I pray I will demonstrate the presence of the Holy Spirit's promise to never leave us abandoned. I will show full loyalty to my spouse.

May I follow him with grace when he doesn't lead well and with wisdom when he makes mistakes. No leader is flawless. Every good leader learns by failing. So when he fails, and he will, I will give him grace to try again, encouragement to keep going, and love that says, I'm with you forever, no matter what.

And as my wedding will be filled with dancing for joy over God's brilliant plan for the two of us and for all of us who are married, may we dance frequently throughout your lives.

Amen!

My God,

On this great day I kneel before you at the dawn of a new life. Ahead of me lies a life of love joined to the woman I have chosen. I pledge to you fidelity, devotion and service to her. By myself I am not capable of this honored task but your help and grace will conquer all.

I need your presence. Make me the man you expect me to be. Mold me into another Joseph. Make me resemble that silent and just husband of Mary. Give me pure love and noble sentiments, a love as true as Adam and Eve's before sin tainted paradise.

Give me love for her which extends far beyond myself, which is not limited or measured by days, weeks, years. May it never fade when age and infirmities rob us of youth. Give us both an understanding of higher things; and make that knowledge blossom into wisdom.

Thank you for creating the woman I love; thank you for giving her to me. Amen.

God of love, may this couple be filled with love for each other that reflects your love for them. Your love always trusts, may they always trust each other. Your love always hopes, may they always be filled with the hope that is found in you. Your love always perseveres, may their love for each other endure through the difficulties of life. Your love never fails, may their love remain strong until the end. Fill them with your love, that they may love each other in the same way. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.
