Prayer For A Baby That Died

Gathered together on this page are several prayers for parents who have experienced the trauma of the death of their son or daughter. There is a comforting prayer for the loss of a child, a prayer for a mother who is in mourning, and a prayer for strength when grieving. May the God of all comfort embrace you in His eternal arms now as you pray and pour out your hearts to Him.

She was so small,
so beautiful,
so full of hope and promise.
What a blessing she has been
to all of us who knew her
those few short months.
She taught us to love,
to hope beyond expectation,
to trust in that which is unseen.
She drew us together
in our anxiety,
our moments of despairing and hopelessness,
as well as in our joys and delight,
and in her every breath.
Her life ended prematurely;
just so had she been born.
Too soon she died.
We wept.
The tears continue.
We hugged
and held one another.
The pain will always linger.
Our hearts emptier
for her absence
and the unfulfilled dreams
she promised.
But the love she brought
into our lives will live forever.
Thank you for giving her to us.
Thank you for the blessing
that she will always be.
Thank you for the love we
would never have known,
but for her
and her brief days with us.
Thank you for _____,
our blessed child of grace.
Amen.

Envelop me in Your tender care By day I pour out my heartbreak to You By night I give you my racing thoughts In You I take refuge In You I will not be afraid For you hold me strong, You hold me safe Calm my fearful heart O God Still my anxious mind O Lord For all my life is found in You All my being is given to You All my hope begins in You

Lord, at the moment nothing seems to be able to help the loss I feel. My heart is broken and my spirit mourns. All I know is that Your grace is sufficient. This day, this hour Moment by moment I choose to lean on You, For when I am at my weakest Your strength is strongest. I pour out my grief to You And praise You that on one glorious day When all suffering is extinguished and love has conquered We shall walk together again.

God, we may not understand the depth of grief from a parent who has lost a child. We may not know the loss of a child ourselves. Maybe we know a different kind of loss. Give us the clarity to remind ourselves that each and every life comes from you. Each child, no matter the time here, is perfectly made and loved for eternity. Let us reflect that truth back to those who mourn for the life of a child.

Heavenly Father, as our friend's and family's losses weigh on our hearts and perplex us in ways we can't understand, remind us that each season of life is there for a reason. Lord, help us to have an eternal perspective and to remember that we aren't made to be happy and whole in this life. Help us to be willing to walk beside our friends and family in whatever season we are given, whether rejoicing or grieving. Lord, we ask you to break our hearts for the things that break yours.

Lord, please comfort my friend and his/her family who is hurting right now because of the loss of their child. Would you give them peace today as they navigate through a season that they thought would look differently? Please wrap your arms around them and send people their way who will love them, provide for their needs, and who will walk alongside them through this time of mourning.

God, we pray that you will draw near to these parents who are grieving the loss of their baby. Thank you that you are close to them during this time and that you will never abandon them even during the toughest and most tearful days. When they have days where they feel numb and unsure, please lift them up with your strength.
