Scripture Reading
Philippians 2:9-11
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Reflection
Eight days after his birth, the child received his name: Jesus, Yeshua, "God saves." Paul sees in that name the whole arc of redemption — from manger humility to cosmic exaltation. We begin the new year under that name; every plan we make, every prayer we pray, every hope we carry, we carry in the name that bends every knee and will ultimately fill every silence with praise.
Prayer for Today
Dear Lord,
Christmas is a wonderful season.
Thank you for this time when we can joyously celebrate Christmas together.
This room is filled with people who reach out each day to help one another.
Thank you for this fine group of people that I have the pleasure to work with.
I pray that you would bless each one here with a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Amen
