Scripture Reading
1 Corinthians 1:18
For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
Reflection
On the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, we remember that the instrument of death became the instrument of life. The cross is the central paradox of the Christian faith: weakness that is strength, death that becomes resurrection, foolishness that is wisdom. When our own lives feel like they are coming apart, the cross reminds us that God works most powerfully through what the world calls defeat.
Prayer for Today
Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy but
first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he
was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way
of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and
peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
