Blessed Are Those Who Believe

Saint of the Day
St. Thomas the Apostle

Thomas, called "the Twin," was one of the twelve apostles whose initial doubt of the resurrection became a defining encounter with the risen Christ. Tradition holds that he later carried the gospel as far as India, where he was martyred.

Scripture Reading

John 20:27-29

Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe." Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!" Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
Reflection
Thomas's honest doubt leads to the most direct confession of Christ's divinity in the Gospels: "My Lord and my God." Jesus does not scold the doubt; he meets it with evidence. And then he pronounces a blessing on every believer who would come after Thomas — those who trust without seeing. That is you. That is us.
Prayer for Today
Father, I want to thank you for all of the blessings you have bestowed upon me, I am not worthy and yet your grace says I am. Your Son Jesus, my Lord and my King, are with me but sometimes Father I feel so alone. Please Father, lift me up in your righteous right hand. Give me hope that there is light waiting for me, even though I see nothing but darkness. Father, my life is in turmoil, and I am surrounded by stormy waters, and yet all I can think is that Jesus sleeps calmly in the front of the boat. Give me the hope and faith Father that He is with me always. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Amen.
