St. Mary Magdalene
Mary Magdalene was a devoted follower of Jesus from whom he had cast out seven demons; she stood at the foot of the cross, was present at his burial, and was the first person to see the risen Lord on Easter morning.
Scripture Reading
John 20:17-18
Jesus said to her, "Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'" Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord."
Reflection
Mary Magdalene was the first witness to the resurrection — a woman, in a culture that did not count women's testimony in court. The risen Christ chose her to carry the most important news in history. Her task was simple and earth-shattering: go and tell. The same commission belongs to anyone who has encountered the living Jesus.
Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father,
It is so hard to watch _________ suffer. It doesn't seem fair for her to have to endure so much pain. Even though I am powerless, I believe that you are powerful and capable of stepping into this situation and completely altering the outcome. In faith,
I am responding to the promises in your word that you listen to our prayers and those prayers can make her well. So, I am bringing my friend before you to ask for your healing touch in her life. Thank you for the forgiveness
of sin and the promise of eternal healing, but I am asking you to provide healing for her on this side of heaven. Amen.
