Scripture Reading
Matthew 5:14-16
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."
Reflection
Jesus does not say "try to become the light" — he says "you are." The issue is not whether the light exists but whether it is hidden. Good works done in the open, unhidingly, glorify not us but the Father. The Christian life lived publicly is an act of worship that invites others into the same light.
Prayer for Today
The light of God surrounds us;
The love of God enfolds us;
The power of God protects us;
The presence of God watches over us;
Wherever we are, God is!
The love of God enfolds us;
The power of God protects us;
The presence of God watches over us;
Wherever we are, God is!
Amen.
