Psalm 139:7-10
Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.
Reflection
The psalmist is not troubled by God's omnipresence but comforted by it. There is nowhere in the universe — not the highest heaven, not the deepest darkness, not the farthest sea — where you can outrun the love of God. This is not a surveillance but a pursuit; God's presence is not surveillance but protection, his hand not a cage but a guide. You are never out of reach of the God who made you.
Prayer for Today
My heart is feels like a thousand knives are running through it. I am weary, spent, and just so sad. Please, help me! Hear my prayers. Hold me and my family up. Give us strength. Be present. Be persistent in your love. Carry us through this heartache. Sustain us. Bring us joy and hope.
