Scripture Reading
Deuteronomy 4:1, 5-6
"And now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the rules that I am teaching you, and do them, that you may live, and go in and take possession of the land that the Lord, the God of your fathers, is giving you. … See, I have taught you statutes and rules, as the Lord my God commanded me, that you should do them in the land that you are entering to take possession of it. Keep them and do them, for that will be your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who, when they hear all these statutes, will say, 'Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.'"
Reflection
God's commands are not burdens imposed from outside but wisdom inscribed in the fabric of human flourishing. Lent is a time to realign our lives with that wisdom — to return to the practices and postures that keep us close to God. When we fast, pray, and give alms, we are not earning favor; we are obeying the deep logic of love that God has written into reality itself.
Prayer for Today
O Lord,
You are my sat nav,
A voice to guide my way.
Such help on every journey,
Within my heart you reign.
You are my compass,
You lead me where to go.
Even when the path is dim,
Your truth lights all I know.
You are my lighthouse.
In the high seas and storms,
I do not fear the rocks of life,
Your love light keeps me warm.
Amen.
