A Prophet Without Honor

Scripture Reading

Luke 4:24, 28-30

And he said, "Truly, I say to you, no prophet is acceptable in his hometown." … When they heard these things, all in the synagogue were filled with wrath. And they rose up and drove him out of the town and brought him to the brow of the hill on which their town was built, so that they could throw him down the cliff. But passing through their midst, he went away.
Reflection
Familiarity can blind us to grace. The people of Nazareth knew Jesus too well — or thought they did — to receive the word he brought them. Lent asks us to examine whether habit has dulled our receptivity to God. Do we hear the Gospel with fresh ears? Hardness of heart is its own kind of desert, and God's word is still the water that can break through it.
Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, when I struggle with everything going on, help me to remember that most everything is temporary. Help me to focus on the eternal things. Be with me and fill me with faith, hope, and love. Give the chance to share my faith, hope, and love with everyone I see today. Amen.

Amen.
