Saint of the Day
St. Andrew the Apostle

Andrew was the brother of Simon Peter and one of the first disciples called by Jesus. A fisherman by trade on the Sea of Galilee, he was also the disciple who brought the boy with five loaves and two fish to Jesus at the feeding of the five thousand (John 6:8-9). According to tradition, he was crucified on an X-shaped cross in Patras, Greece — now called the "St. Andrew's Cross" — and is the patron saint of Scotland.

Scripture Reading

Matthew 4:18-20

As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will send you out to fish for people." At once they left their nets and went with him.
Reflection
Andrew heard two words — "Follow me" — and everything changed. He did not ask for a detailed itinerary or a guarantee against hardship; he simply left his nets and went. The feast of St. Andrew stands at the opening of Advent as a reminder that the coming of Christ is always also a call. He comes not merely to be observed but to be followed. What nets might Christ be asking you to leave today?
