Scripture Reading
John 15:4-5
Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
Reflection
The image of the vine and branches is one of Jesus' most organic and intimate metaphors. A branch does not produce grapes by striving harder — it simply stays connected to the source of life. Spiritual fruitfulness, then, is less about effort and more about remaining: in prayer, in Scripture, in community, in obedience. What practices of abiding have you let slip? Return to them today.
Prayer for Today
Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep make you complete in every good work to do his will, working in you what is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever
and ever. Amen.
and ever. Amen.
