Prayer For The Dying

Holy God, we are always of good courage because we know that while we are at home in the body, we are away from You for we walk by faith and not by sight. But we are of good courage and would rather be away from the body and at home with You. I pray that whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please You, because being with You and living in You (both physically and spiritually) is the greatest gift a person could have, Amen.

Omnipotent God, the Word declares that the man who remains steadfast under trial is blessed, for when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life, which You have promised to those who love You. I thank You in advance for the crown of life! I thank You in advance for the heavenly reward that is so much greater and much more beautiful than I could even comprehend, Amen.

Creator of the Heavens and the Earth, for us to live in Christ, and to die is gain. If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. I am hard-pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. Lord, You are our desire, we yearn to be with You in death, so please keep us until we go to our place with You in heaven, Amen.

God of Life, there was a voice from heaven saying, Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now one, blessed indeed, that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them! Lord, we praise You for eternal rest and for eternal peace. We praise You because death has a purpose, it brings about the peace that we desire here on earth! We love You, Father, Amen.

Holy God, in the Scriptures, when Your people saw Your Son resurrected, they fell at His feet as though dead. But He laid His right hand on them, saying, Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades. Lord, I rejoice in knowing that even in death, You are in control, You are victorious, and You are the reigning power, Amen.

Awesome God, because You loved the world, You gave Your only Son, so that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life! With death being an intense reality in life right now, I pray that my faith makes this word an even greater reality. I am promised eternal life in You; even if the doctor proclaims death, You proclaim life! Thank You for Your unwavering love and Your everlasting word, Amen.

Dear Lord, I know that this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: Death is swallowed up in victory O death, where is your sting? I rejoice in knowing that death is not the end for us, we have eternity with You. You do not forsake us in death. Instead, you show us how to find our way back to You through death, Amen.

God of Love, help us find comfort in Your word that tells us that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. I pray that even in death we know that we are not separated from You and Your omniscient power, Amen.
