Thanksgiving Dinner Prayer
For Use at the Thanksgiving Day Meal
Thanksgiving is an official holiday in the United States, and also in Canada (on another date). This is a day to thanks for the blessings we have been given and gather with our families for a meal, traditionally of turkey, with some side dishes like dressing, corn, and rolls. Thanksgiving is always celebrated in the US on the fourth Thursday of November. Canadian Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday of October. The American holiday is loosely based on a meal between the Wampanoag tribe and the Pilgrims in New England.
Thanksgiving Meal Prayer and Blessing
Father of all grace, we give you thanks for the abundance that we now enjoy.
We ask your blessing upon this food, and upon all those present, and for those who have worked so hard to provide us with this meal.
We give you thanks also for the true food from heaven, our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom all abundance comes.
