Prayer For Our Loved Ones Who Passed Away
My heart is feels like a thousand knives are running through it. I am weary, spent, and just so sad. Please, help me! Hear my prayers. Hold me and my family up. Give us strength. Be present. Be persistent in your love. Carry us through this heartache. Sustain us. Bring us joy and hope. Amen
I cry for the legacy this loved one leaves, for the ways the world has been made different by their presence, for the memories that become both more beautiful and more painful on this side of death. And I pray that the work You have accomplished in this remarkable life will grow deeper, wider, and stronger in the days to come, uninhibited by a weak opponent like death. Amen
Thank You that You treasure each tear they shed. Your Word tells us that tears are precious to You and that You catch each one that falls. May those who are grieving rest assured that You are doing that now in a very real way.
You have promised to work all things out for good for those who love You and take up Your calling upon their lives. We trust that You will work this sad loss out for good. Somehow in Your amazing wisdom and compassion. In Jesus' Name, Amen
I pray that fear would not take root in their grieving. Instead, we ask that the peace of Heaven would flood their souls. Give them images of their beloved resting in Your arms. And help them to see that they can rest there too, for You care deeply for them. Amen
Our Father,
Thank You for Your Word that gives comfort. Our loved ones' hearts are broken today. They are crushed with the disappointment of losing their beloved. You have said that You are close to the broken-hearted and that You save those who are crushed in spirit. May Your presence and help be very present in their time of need, felt tangibly by each one. Amen
God comforts us in the pressures we have to endure... Remember that "comfort" does not mean relief from the pressure. It is not a feather bed to lie on or a cushion to absorb the blows. It means, literally, "with strength." God gives to the person who trusts him strength to bear the pressures. Remember, too, that it is always given for the added purpose of equipping us to help others who need comfort.
Tears have a wisdom all their own. They come when a person has relaxed enough to let go and to work through his sorrow. They are the natural bleeding of an emotional wound, carrying the poison out of the system. Here lies the road to recovery.
Lord Jesus, You alone are holy and compassionate; forgive our brother/sister his/her sins.
By dying You opened the gates of life for those who believe in You; do not let Your brother/sister be parted from You, but by Your glorious power give him/her light, joy, and peace in heaven where You live for ever
and ever. Amen.
