Prayer For Ordinary Time

God our Father, who by sending into the world
the Word of truth and the Spirit of sanctification
made known to the human race your wondrous mystery,
grant us we pray, that in professing the true faith,
we may acknowledge the Trinity of eternal glory
and adore your Unity, powerful in majesty.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
R. Amen.

Merciful God,
you have prepared for those who love you
such good things as pass our understanding:
pour into our hearts such love toward you
that we, loving you in all things and above all things,
may obtain your promises,
which exceed all that we can desire;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

O Lord Jesus,
you are the Word of God in human form
who come to us at the end of a long dialogue
conducted by the Creator with his creatures.
You are God's final communication to us,
a communication in Word and Act.
The Word is the announcement
of the Good News of salvation
preached to the lowly and the sinful,
the Good News that is you yourself.
The Act is your Passion which bears witness
that the Father loves us to the end,
that his word is true and faithful,
ant that all his promises are fulfilled in you.

Help us to receive this word
at the hands of your Church,
and let it awaken our faith
and explain our rites.
Most of all, let it give sight to our eyes,
enabling us to see all of life
with the eyes of God.

Heavenly Father,
let me realize that, like all prayer,
prayer of petition is primarily
a means of encountering you
and being sustained by you.
You know what we need
because you are a loving Father
who watches over us at every moment.

Yet you respect our freedom
and wait for us to express our needs to you.

Let me have frequent recourse to you in prayer
so that I will purify my intentions
and bring my wishes into conformity with your own.
Let me pray with fixed formulas
as well as in my own words -
whether they be long or short.
Above all, let me come before you
with a heart moved by your Spirit
and a will ready to conform to your holy will.

Lord God, heavenly Father,
we thank you for granting us peace
and graciously sparing us from war and foreign dominion.
Graciously let us continue to live
in your fear according to your will,
giving no cause for wars or other punishment.
Govern and direct our leaders and officials,
that they may not hinder the obedience due to you
but maintain righteousness
that we may enjoy happiness and blessing
under their government;
through our Lord Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one true God, now and forever.

Lord God, heavenly Father,
make us watchful and heedful
in awaiting the coming of your Son,
our Lord Jesus Christ,
that when he stands at the door and knocks,
he may find us not sleeping in carelessness and sin,
but awake and rejoicing in his appearing;
through your beloved Son,
Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one true God, now and forever.

Heavenly Father
You are the One from Whom
every family derives its origin.
Grant that, in keeping with Your glorious riches
we may be strengthened with power
through the Spirit
for the development of our inner selves.
Help us to develop our natural potentialities
to the full
while at the same time growing in Your likeness
to Your Son Jesus Christ. Amen

Lord Jesus
I know that all human relations take time
if they are to grow and deepen.
This is also true of my relations
with You, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
which must grow over the course of my life.
However, this growth is not automatic;
time alone means nothing
unless I add earnest efforts to it.
