A Prayer for Holy Cross Day
Also Known as the Feast of the Triumph of the Cross
The feast of the Holy Cross, usually just simply referred to as "Holy Cross Day," uniquely celebrates the cross of Jesus Christ. It also celebrates the supposed finding of the true cross by Saint Helena, the mother of the emperor Constantine, in the fourth century. Ultimately, it is impossible to know whether Saint Helena found the actual cross of Jesus or another of the many crosses used in ancient Rome. The feast also recalls other later events related to the finding of the cross. This prayer may be used on September 14 or any day related to the cross of Christ.
Prayer for Holy Cross Day
Almighty God, whose Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, was lifted high upon the cross that he might draw the whole world to himself:
Mercifully grant that we, who glory in the mystery of our redemption, may have grace to take up our cross and follow him;
Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting.
Amen.
