Prayer For Funeral
God has blessed and enriched our lives in giving us (Name) to know and love here on earth. Though our time together was not nearly enough, in committing his/her body to the earth, we give over to God the care of his/her spirit, and we acknowledge that we will one day reunite with him/her in God's house where Jesus has prepared a room for us. The Lord bless him/her and keep him/her; the Lord make his face shine upon him/her and be gracious to him/her; the Lord look upon him/her with favor and give him/her peace.
God our Father,
Your power brings us to birth,
Your providence guides our lives,
and by Your command we return to dust.
Lord, those who die still live in Your presence,
their lives change but do not end.
I pray in hope for my family,
relatives and friends,
and for all the dead known to You alone.
In company with Christ,
Who died and now lives,
may they rejoice in Your kingdom,
where all our tears are wiped away.
Unite us together again in one family,
to sing Your praise forever and ever.
Our Father in heaven, we thank you that, through Jesus Christ, you have given us the gift of eternal life.
Keep us firm in the faith, that nothing can separate us from your love.
When we lose someone who is dear to us, help us to receive your comfort and to share it with one another.
We thank you for what you have given us through XXXX.
We now entrust ourselves to you, just as we are, with our sense of loss and of guilt,
When the time has come, let us depart in peace, and see you face to face, for you are the God of our salvation
O let not the trifles of time
induce us to neglect the one thing
needful. While each of us is
compelled to say, I know Thou
wilt bring me to death, and to
the house appointed for all
living, may we be enabled also
to say, I know in whom I have
believed, and am persuaded that
He is able to keep that which
I have committed to Him against
And let not the solemnities we have
this day witnessed be ever
forgotten; for often our most
serious impressions have worn
off, and our goodness has been
as the morning cloud, and as
early dew that soon passeth away.
Oh Father of mercies, and God of all comfort,
Thou hast often invited us to thyself in kindness.
It manifests our depravity that we think of Thee so little
In our hour of ease and prosperity!
But we are now before Thee in affliction and distress.
Yet we rejoice to know that Thou art a very present and an
All-sufficient help in trouble.
You are our Creator. You are the author of life.
Life is a precious gift.
We come today to commemorate and honor a life that is precious to us.
As we mourn this life that is no longer with us, we are aching from a void that has been created in our heart.
We lift up our sadness and grief to you.
Lord, we ask that you would comfort us in our pain, and bring us an abundance of your gentle healing mercies.
In Jesus name we pray,
God our Father,
we thank you that you have made each of us
in your own image,
and given us gifts and talents with which to serve you.
We thank you for [Name],
the years we shared with him/her,
the good we saw in him/her,
the love we received from him/her.
Now give us strength and courage
to leave him/her in your care,
confident in your promise of eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Dear Lord, You are the Father of all mercies, Who cares for all Your people with an everlasting love. You are the God of all comfort, Who consoles all those that are suffering the death of a loved one. You are the God of all peace, Who has promised to pour Your perfect peace into the hearts of Your children who are going through the pain and suffering that the loss of a precious loved one brings.
Oh Lord, I pray that You would become their strength in this time of loss, their hope in this time of bereavement, their joy in this time of sorrow, and their perfect peace in the turmoil that their hearts must be facing.
Thank You that the sting of death has been broken forever, and the curse of the grave has been destroyed through the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. He has broken forever the power of death and hell, for all who trust in His name.
Speak into the hearts of all Your children that are mourning at this time, and let them not mourn as those that have no hope. And Lord, for those that do not yet know You as the Saviour Who died for them, I pray that they will come to know and accept You as their Saviour and find their perfect rest in You. In Jesus' name I pray,
