Prayer For First Responders

That the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes
of your understanding being enlightened; that you may KNOW [experience] what is the hope of His calling
[assurance/clarity of God's call for our life], what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints [our
destiny as Jesus' inheritance], and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe,
according to the working of His mighty power

May the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one anotherthat you may with one
mind and one mouth glorify theFatherMay the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that
you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

O judge and savior of the nations, we remember before you with grateful hearts the men and
women of our community and country who in times of crisis and danger venture all for our
safety. Grant that we may always keep them in prayer and support them in their service.
This we ask in the name of the one who died to rescue us all, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Gracious God, first responders have such dangerous jobs! Help them to dwell in your
shadow and be sheltered by your protection. May you always be their refuge in difficult
situations. May they trust in you completely and continually moment by moment. Show
them your power when they find themselves in unsafe situations or when they face people
who threaten or try to harm them. Keep them safe for the glory of your name!
Father, we are so blessed to have men and women who work diligently for our safety and
well-being, even when their jobs are difficult or thankless. Help us to continually remember
to give thanks to you for their sacrifices and service to our community. May we touch
heaven with prayers of gratitude whenever we see or personally encounter first responders.
Give them the strength that you provide so that as they serve, you will be honored.
Blessed are you, Lord, God of mercy,
who through your Son
gave us a marvelous example of charity
and the great commandment of love for one another.
Send down your blessings on these your servants,
who so generously devote themselves to helping others.
Grant them courage when they are afraid,
wisdom when they must make quick decisions,
strength when they are weary,
and compassion in all their work.
When the alarm sounds
and they are called to aid both friend and stranger,
let them faithfully serve you in their neighbor.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

May their dedication to protecting life serve as a shining lamp of love
And the works of their hands bring us all merit in heaven.
Bless the souls of all who have died to save others,
Civilians and professionals,
The trained and the untrained,
In every age and in every land,
Men and women who answered the call of honor, duty and service.
May their memories be sanctified with joy and love.
May their souls be bound up in the bond of life,
A living blessing in our midst.

Almighty God, you lend your strength to all those who are there for us in times of crisis, fear, and hurt. You give courage to the first responders who continue to do this important work they are called to do, looking beyond the risk for the sake of those who need your help and protection. We give you thanks for the many ways they give of themselves, their skills, knowledge and help in troubling times. Protect them, o Lord. Extend your shielding hand over them and comfort their hearts when they are tired and heartbroken.

God, we also lift up prayers of thanksgiving and comfort for the families of first responders and all who support them. Give them hope and courage. Surround them with your loving presence and give them peace when their loved ones run toward uncertainty. All this we pray in your name. Amen.

There are so many for whom we pray, Oh God.

This day, in a special way, we lift to you all first responders.
We pray for nurses and firefighters; for police officers and counselors;
for ambulance drivers and emergency room doctors;
and for all those who rush in at times of tragedy or crisis.

Through their skilled and generous care,
may those whom they serve sense YOUR loving presence.
Please, God of all goodness, protect them.
Grant them wisdom. Sustain them.
And grant peace of heart to all who worry about them.

With all our hearts we lift to you our first responders.
We pray, in faith, through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.
