Prayer For Dead Dog
In days gone by, the dog ran wild, untamed and free.
Although man may have tamed your bodies,
we have never tamed your spirit.
You are free now.
Go and run with your pack,
with your wild ancestors, racing by the midnight moon.
Go and hunt for your prey,
taking what is your birthright.
Join the wolf, the jackal, the wild dogs,
and run with your kin on the wild hunt.
Run, and guide your spirit home.
Faithful friend, loyal companion,
we say farewell to you now.
You have kept us warm at night,
protected our home
and offered us unconditional love.
For this we are thankful,
and we will remember you forever.
Dogs are loyal, trusting, and faithful companions. If your pet dog has crossed over, you may wish to offer up one of these prayers to honor him on the journey.
We honor the memory of our precious pet with the warm light of this candle, sending to all our beloved pets a message of peace and love. We, as pet caregivers, bring our loss and sorrow to this place and together we ask that day by day our grief will be lessened. Each day let us continue to see how the relationship we had with our beloved pet still impacts our lives today.

We gather today joining hearts as we honor the loss of our beloved pet (pet's name) who made our days and our lives more enjoyable. Someday we hope to meet with you again (dog's name) in eternity with hugs, kisses and tears. We miss your daily presence and unending love in our daily lives. Death ends a life but our relationship still lives on in my heart and in my memory of times we spent together. You are now free running the fields where we will meet again. You are restored to complete health. You are in God's loving care forever.

O Lord our God, we come before You this day in sadness. (Pet's name), who brought us so much joy in life, has now died. (His/Her) happy times in our family's embrace have come to an end. We miss (pet's name) already.
Help us, O God, to remember the good times with (pet's name). Remind us to rejoice in the happy times (he/she) brought to our home. Let us be thankful for the good life we were blessed to give to (him/her).
We are grateful to You, God, for creating (pet's name), for entrusting (him/her) to our care, and for sustaining (him/her) in our love for a measure of time. We understand that all that lives must die. We knew that this day would come. And yet, O God, we would have wanted one more day of play, one more evening of love with (pet's name).
O God, as we have taken care of (pet's name) in life, we ask that You watch over (him/her) in death. You entrusted (pet's name) to our care; now, we give (him/her) back to You. May (pet's name) find a happy new home in Your loving embrace.

Lord, thank you for the blessings of companionship you allowed (dog name) to provide. His attentive demeanor and patience with me daily reminded me of the care you put into providing your people with friendship from four-legged friends. Please allow his transition into the afterlife to be smooth and painless and allow him to gain the understanding that he meant a great deal to me and was very loved.
